Orono library to host Festival Day events

ORONO – The Orono Public Library will host two events during the annual Festival Day on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Friends of Orono Public Library will hold an Ice Cream Social noon-3 p.m. at the fire station. Ice cream sundaes can be purchased for $2 per bowl or $5 for a “bottomless bowl.” Proceeds will benefit the New Library Building Fund.

Meanwhile, at 10 a.m. on Mill Street in the children’s activities area, there will be a storytelling tent with local citizens reading their favorite children’s books.

Guest readers include state Sen. Elizabeth Schneider; author Bob Klose; teacher and Bangor Daily News columnist Debbie White; Town Manager Cathy Conlow and yoga instrucor Sandy Cyrus.

After each reading there will be visits from Baxter, the Maine State Library Mascot. Parents are encouraged to bring cameras to get pictures of their children with the guest readers and the life-size Maine coon cat.
