Hunter safety courses offered State-mandated lessons available as deer season approaches

With archery season looming and firearms season for deer less than two months away, many prospective hunters are looking to complete their state-mandated hunter safety courses.

Here are some of the upcoming offerings for both disciplines:

Archery

. In Waterville, at Waterville High School, Sept. 17-19, 5:30-9:30 p.m., call 873-5754.

Bangor Gun Show ongoing

The Penobscot Valley Conservation Association will hold its 30th annual Bangor Gun Show today and Sunday at the Bangor Auditorium.

Show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for NRA members, and law enforcement and military personnel with ID. Children under 12 get in free with an adult.

Those who join the NRA at the show will also get in free.

DU to hold 36th banquet

The DownEast chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its 36th annual fundraising banquet and auction on Sept. 28 at the Bangor Banquet and Conference Center on Hogan Road.

The program starts at 5:30 p.m., and a dinner, live and silent auctions are on tap.

The auctions will feature limited edition wildlife prints, decoys, guns, knives, jewelry, furniture, hunting equipment and apparel and more.

Seating is limited, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Advance tickets are available for $50 for singles and $70 for couples.
