Three second-half goals power Machias

MACHIAS – The Machias High School Bulldogs scored three unanswered goals in the second half after trailing 1-0 at intermission to earn their second win of the season, 3-1 over Narraguagus of Harrington in schoolboy soccer action Friday.

Matt Marshall scored the game-winner, while Matt Little got 2-0-1 Machias on the board and Ty Richards added an insurance goal. All three goals were unassisted.

Gustavo Ortiz put the Knights of Harrington ahead with an unassisted first-half tally.

Mike Little had eight saves on 11 shots for Machias while Brandon Meserve stopped seven of 10 for 1-1 Narraguagus.

Mount View 2, Lincoln Acad. 0

At Thorndike, Dylan Keller scored an unassisted scored at 32:02 in the second half to lead Mount View to the win over Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Alex Pierel scored with 1:48 remaining for 2-1 Mount View. Ethan Jean stopped five of nine shots.

Kevin Covant made eight saves on 14 shots for 2-1 Lincoln Academy.

Woodland 5, Shead 2

At Eastport, Chad James scored two goals to lead Woodland over Shead.

Scott Boomer and Cody Sappier both had a goal and two assists for the 1-0-1 Dragons. Zach Cox added a goal and Aaron St. Pierre provided an assist. Todd Wormell stopped 10 of 12 shots.

A.J. Seeley and Justin Lewey scored for 0-3 Shead. Nick Vinson made 19 saves on 24 shots.

Penobscot Valley 2, Lee 0

At Lee, Grant Sherman scored an unassisted goal 27:59 into the first half to lead Penobscot Valley of Howland past Lee Academy.

Dylan Thompson scored an insurance goal with 10 minutes left in the second half for the 1-0 Howlers. Aaron Awalt made four saves on seven shots.

A.J. Harris stopped 14 of 28 shots for 0-1 Lee.

JV: Penobscot Valley 1-0

So. Aroostook 2, Easton 1

At Dyer Brook, Josh Branscombe broke a 1-1 tie by blasting home a Tyler Robinson pass with 6:08 left in regulation as the host Warriors tripped up Easton.

Dakota Sleeper scored two minutes into the game on a Rob Toothaker assist for 3-2-1 Southern Aroostook. Colby Clark made four saves on eight shots.

Brad Trask scored an unassisted goal with 29 minutes left in the second half for the 6-3 Bears. Jeremy Brock stopped seven of 12 shots.

Girls soccer

Washington Acad. 4, Woodland 2

At Woodland, Andi Flannery scored two goals to lift Washington Academy of East Machias over Woodland.

Samantha Grant had a goal and an assist for the Raiders and Joslyn Corey added a goal. Irene Lewey stopped seven of 14 shots.

Kacie Burke and Rachel Torrey scored for Woodland and Ashley Laking provided an assist. Cynthia Bergin made 24 saves on 31 shots.

Bucksport 2, Hermon 1

At Bucksport Thursday, unassisted first-half goals by Gaby Harvey and Keely Sullivan rallied the Golden Bucks to victory.

Lindsey Allen had scored to give Hermon a 1-0 lead earlier in the half.

Stephanie Bridges and Emily Lenor combined to make 12 saves on 13 shots for 1-1 Bucksport. Megan Herbert made six saves on 12 shots for 0-2 Hermon.

Field hockey

Dexter 2, John Bapst 0

At Dexter, Denise Robinson and Michelle Chapman scored 2:17 apart early in the second half to supply Dexter with its win over John Bapst of Bangor.

Jana Kenney and Olivia Gardner had assists and Sam Conway made two saves on three shots for the 2-0 Tigers.

Hillary Laferriere made eight saves on 12 shots for 0-2 John Bapst.

JV: Dexter 2-1

Central 4, Hermon 0

At Corinth, Rachel Trafton scored two goals to lead Central past Hermon.

Aliza Underhill had a goal and two assists for 1-1 Central. Hilary Haney had a goal and Brooke Washburn provided an assist. Kara Voisine stopped all eight shots.

Carrie Cole made nine saves on 16 shots for 0-3 Hermon.

JV: Central 2-0

Mount Ararat 3, Bangor 1

At Topsham, Jordan Brown scored twice to lift Mount Ararat over Bangor.

Lisa Mancher added a goal for Mount Ararat. Molly Hayes stopped 17 of 18 shots.

Michelle Gist scored a first-half goal for Bangor. Hilary Babin made 28 saves on 31 shots.
