Spectators will be able to watch artists, including a blacksmith, at work during the first international art adventure featuring more than 60 artists from the coastal border region of eastern Maine and southern New Brunswick.
The two-day event will be held 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-16, in communities in Washington County and Charlotte County, New Brunswick.
The Tides Institute and Museum in Eastport, the Bertha Day Fine Art and Craft Gallery of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, and Michael Chesley Johnson of Campobello Island, New Brunswick, organized the event. It is funded by participating artists and sponsors with additional support provided in part by the Maine State Office of Tourism and a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
There will be free tour maps listing artists’ and studios’ locations for download at the Two Countries, One Bay Web site at www.twocountriesart.com and from participating artists and sponsors.
During the free self-guided tour, individuals can visit award-winning fine artists and craftspeople and experience the distinct cultures of two countries while enjoying en route the breathtaking coastal scenery of Passamaquoddy Bay, the group said in a prepared release.
The two-day event will include a wide range of media from painting to printmaking, textiles to stained glass, contemporary sculpture and jewelry to traditional crafts.
