CARIBOU – A Sangerville man was hurt Friday evening when the pickup he was driving struck a moose on U.S. Route 1.
Maine State Police Sgt. David McPherson said Scott Richardson, 43, of Sangerville was headed to Limestone at approximately 9 p.m. when he came upon a moose in Caribou. The moose was in the middle of the roadway and Richardson had no time to react, according to McPherson.
Richardson, who is an investigator for the State Fire Marshal’s Office, escaped serious injury after the 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck he was driving struck and killed the animal.
The vehicle, which had extensive front-end damage, was destroyed.
Richardson was taken by the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department to Cary Medical Center and treated for numerous nonlife-threatening injuries before being released.
State police are investigating the incident with assistance from the Caribou Police Department.
