Are you a shudderbug?
Does the thought of taking digital photos sends chills down your spine?
Then you might just want to sign up for the University of Maine Museum of Art’s digital photography workshop. The class will be held 9 a.m. to noon on three successive Saturdays, Sept. 22 and 29, and Oct. 6.
Gina Platt, the museum’s education coordinator, will lead the inaugural course for adults.
Platt is an accomplished photographer and custom color printer whose work has been exhibited at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art and the Blum Gallery at College of the Atlantic, among other galleries in Maine and New York.
In addition, she has cataloged and curated digital images for museums including Woodlawn in Ellsworth.
“It’s good to know what your possibilities are,” Platt said. “I’m hoping this class will give people a manageable perspective about what’s available in the camera and what’s available afterward.”
Obviously, she knows her way around a camera – from setup and settings to exposure and resolution. She will show students how to print, share and store photographs. And she can teach you exactly what that flower symbol on the back of your camera means.
“I think it’ll be good to have a class where I can attend to individual needs,” Platt said. “Do you want to become a better photographer? Or do you want to become a better manager of these photos?”
Space is limited, but there are still a few slots left in the class. It costs $75 for museum members, $65 for nonmembers. It will be held at the museum at 40 Harlow St. in Bangor. For information or to register, visit www.umma.umaine.edu or call 561-3350.
