ST. ANDREWS, New Brunswick – A pollution response exercise will be held in Passamaquoddy Bay today.
The exercise involves response teams from the United States and Canadian Coast Guards.
“This training is the latest in a series of biennial exercises conducted jointly by Canada and the United States to exercise the Joint Marine Pollution Contingency Plan and specifically the Atlantic geographic annex of the plan,” officials of Canada’s Fisheries and Oceans said in a prepared release.
The exercise, known as CANUSLANT, or the Canada-United States-Atlantic Regional will test pollution-response responsibilities of the Canadian and U.S. Coast Guards, the release said.
Other exercise objectives are to operate out of a remote command post, validate customs and immigration procedures, test equipment deployment limitations, and practice interoperability with other partner agencies.
