Bellevance lifts PVHS to win Orono FH tips Central in OT

HOWLAND – Derrick Bellevance knocked in the game-winning goal from the back post with 1:08 remaining in regulation Wednesday to lift Penobscot Valley to a 2-1 boys soccer victory over Lee Academy.

Bellevance, whose goal was unassisted, gathered in a loose ball that deflected off a Lee Academy defender and slammed it home.

Dylan Thomas scored an unassisted goal 1:20 into the match for the 3-1 Howlers, while Brian Yoon had tied it up with four minutes left in the first half for the 0-4 Pandas.

PVHS’ Aaron Aywalt had six saves on seven shots while Lee’s A.J. Harris stopped 23 of 33.

JV: Penobscot Valley 6-1

George Stevens Acad. 3, Orono 2

At Blue Hill, Ryan Kurtz notched a pair of goals to lift George Stevens Academy past Orono.

Steve Ensworth added a goal while Nick Saunders and Adam Groves each had an assist. Rashaad Frazier made five saves on 13 shots for the 4-0 Eagles.

Lee Hecker and Ian Staples each netted a goal for Orono. Nate Peterson made four saves on 13 shots for the 0-3 Red Riots.

JV: Orono 4-3

Katahdin 6, Hodgdon 1

At Stacyville, Andy Kay netted two goals and tallied an assist to lead Katahdin past Hodgdon.

Tom Anderson, Billy Duffy, Kaleb Gallagher and Marshall Davis each added a goal. Rich Qualey, Davis and Anderson each contributed an assist for Katahdin. Matthew Tarr and Levi Robinson combined to make two saves on four shots for the 3-2 Cougars.

Jamie Ryan scored a goal for Hodgdon on an assist from Chris Harris. Dan McGillicuddy made 15 saves on 33 shots for the 0-6 Hawks.

Calais 5, Woodland 1

At Calais, Ben Pagels tallied three goals as the Blue Devils topped the Dragons.

Nathan O’Neill added a goal and two assists for the Calais, while Jeff Johnston scored a goal and Jeremy Carr had two assists. Dylan Ramsdell made 16 saves on 36 shots for the 3-1 Blue Devils.

Cody Sapier scored for Woodland off an assist from Corey Townsend. Todd Wormell made 18 saves on 23 shots for the 2-2 Dragons.

Field hockey

Orono 2, Central 1

At Corinth, Chelsea Wagner scored the game-winning goal two minutes into overtime to lift Orono past Central.

Annie Withington netted the first goal while Amber Saucier stopped eight of nine shots for the 2-3 Red Riots.

Maddie Dunakin scored for Central off an assist from Samantha Blanchard. Kara Voisine made six saves on eight shots for the 2-2 Red Devils.

JV: Central 5-0

Foxcroft Acad. 7, Old Town 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Kelsey Boss scored three goals and Kayla Clukey added a goal and an assist as the Ponies cruised to victory.

Molly Cyr and Sabrina Sharrow also scored goals for Foxcroft, while Emily Hutchinson contributed an assist.

Cally Randall scored for Old Town.

Renee Maheu made four saves on five shots for 3-1 Foxcroft. Heather Nye stopped 10 of 17 shots for 1-3 Old Town.

JV: Foxcroft 10-0

Stearns 1, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Angela Levesque slammed home a centering pass from Mikaela Rosebush with 6:42 remaining in the first half to lift Stearns of Millinocket past John Bapst.

Alyssa Beaulieu had one save on three shots in recording the shutout for the 5-0 Minutemen.

Hillary Laferriere stopped three of four shots for 0-4 John Bapst.

JV: Stearns 4-3

Lewiston 2, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Chantel Wood tallied a pair of goals to lead Lewiston by Brewer.

Sam Howanek and Kristen D’Ermo each grabbed an assist for Lewiston. Emily Craig made four saves on four shots for the 1-3 Blue Devils.

Angela Patterson made 10 saves on 12 shots for the 0-4 Witches.

JV: Brewer 1-0

MCI 5, Lincoln Acad. 0

At Pittsfield, Jesse Richardson scored four goals to lead Maine Central Institute by Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Maggie Bryant tallied a goal and an assist while Kaylee Merrithew and Brianna Brown each grabbed an assist for MCI. Kayla Michaud made two saves on two shots for the 1-4 Huskies.

Arielle Clifford scored for Lincoln Academy while Erin Dodge made 14 saves on 19 shots for the 0-5 Eagles.

Girls soccer

Old Town 3, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Alison Brown scored two goals, one of which was assisted by Erin St. Peter, to lead Old Town to its second win.

Katie Deschene connected on a pass from Hannah Berry for the 2-2 Coyotes. Annie Cashon had 11 saves on 17 shots.

Sarah Whittemore stopped six of nine shots for 0-3 Foxcroft Academy.

JV: Old Town 3-0

Bangor Christian 4, Schenck 0

At Bangor, Katherine Bragg scored two unassisted goals in the first half to propel Bangor Christian past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Christin Pelletier notched an unassisted goal while Demelza Ramirez scored off a pass from Kelly Robinson for the 4-1 Patriots, who held the 0-4 Wolverines without a shot on goal. Moriah Bach was in goal for the hosts.

Tricia Hobbs and LeAnn Toothaker combined for nine saves on 33 shots for Schenck.

JV: Bangor Christian 4-0

Katahdin 2, Hodgdon 0

At Stacyville, Melissa Duffy scored two first-half goals as the Cougars remained undefeated.

Mary Jo Robinson assisted on both goals for 5-0 Katahdin.

Kayla Stevens earned the shutout in goal, making four saves on seven shots.

Emilay Jurson and Jillian London combined to make eight saves on 17 shots for 2-6-1 Hodgdon.

Calais 2, Narraguagus 0

At Harrington, Courtney Hill tallied both goals in leading undefeated Calais past Narraguagus.

Breanna Black assisted on one of Hill’s goals for the 4-0 Blue Devils. Hillary Hollingdale saved all six shots she faced.

Samantha Baker had seven saves on 13 shots for the 0-4-1 Knights.

Rockland 4, Oak Hill 1

At Sabattus, Baillie Boggs scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Tigers to their first win of the season.

Hayli Kinney, Kelsey Sirois and Novelle Szandzik added a goal apiece for 1-3 Rockland. Elise Mason dished out two assists and Ali Curtis picked up another. Kayla McGuire had 12 saves on 15 shots.

Ambyr Provost notched an unassisted goal for 2-2 Oak Hill. Maggie Sabine had 16 saves on 20 shots.
