Women’s support group

BANGOR – Rape Response Services offers free educational support groups to help survivors to heal, grow and thrive.

A women’s support group will begin 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. For information or signup, call 941-2980. Groups for male survivors, teens and loved ones are available if there is enough interest.

Locks of Love

BREWER – Sydney Leonard, Lorraine Colpitts’s niece, will be first up for a haircut on Sept. 15 to benefit Locks of Love. Then will come Colpitts herself, her daughters-in-law, her 5-year-old granddaughter and anyone else she can round up for the worthy cause.

Colpitts’ company, Safe and Sound Youth Transportation, will sponsor the benefit for the National Locks of Love Campaign 6 p.m.-midnight Saturday, Sept. 15, at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.

Colpitts also will collect hair that is cut before or after the event.

Lorraine Colpitts owns and operates Safe and Sound Youth Transportation Inc. in Brewer. The company provides therapeutic intervention and transport for at-risk teens in the United States.

Relay for Life meeting

BANGOR – The American Cancer Society Relay For Life Midcoast planning committee will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway.

The meeting is being held to stress the importance of Relay For Life in saving lives.

Relay For Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society. It is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors of cancer, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.

Teams of eight to 15 members will gather with tents and sleeping bags to join with more than 4,500 communities nationwide that sponsor Relays.

Relay For Life brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools and churches. Teams seek sponsorship before the Relay, all with the goal of eliminating cancer.

Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend their support in other ways.

Scoop for a Cure

BANGOR – Scoop for a Cure, 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at What’s the Scoop, Main Street, will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

The event will include live music, food and opportunities to make donations to the foundation.
