DOVER-FOXCROFT – More than $70,000 worth of vehicles and items stolen last spring from a seasonal home in Kingsbury Plantation have been recovered.
The stolen items, which included two antique motorcycles, one of which was used by police, two all-terrain vehicles, two snowmobiles and a trailer, a large generator, chain saws, a wood splitter, a lawn mower, and snowmobile helmets and jackets, were recovered from two buildings in Farmingdale.
An informant told Maine State Police in Kennebec County the whereabouts of the stolen items and the region they were taken from, according to Lt. Robert Young of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department. State police, in turn, notified the Sheriff’s Department, he said Thursday.
The stolen items are being processed for fingerprints at the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory. Police have identified a suspect from the joint investigation and are actively searching to find the person.
The thief knew the victim and the fact that the vehicles were stored in Kingsbury Plantation, according to Young. “He selected the victim because he knew him and knew that he knew he had valuable stuff,” he said.
Young said the thief had been in the process of dismantling the motorcycles for parts, apparently aware that he could not sell the bikes because they had unique artwork.
