LEWISTON – The third annual Blue Mass honoring Maine’s law enforcement, fire and emergency medical personnel will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul at the intersection of Ash and Bartlett streets.

During the commemorative Mass, Roman Catholic Bishop Richard J. Malone will give thanks and bestow his blessings on first responders.

Members of public safety agencies from around the state will attend the Mass in uniform. Color guards will present the flags and the Maine Public Safety Pipe and Drum Corps will perform outside the basilica after the service.

The Blue Mass is held on a Sunday close to the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, in order to remember the first responders who died that day.
