BELFAST – A new education and faith formation program, Faith Through the Seasons, will begin Sunday at First Parish Church of Belfast, United Church of Christ, on Court Street.
Professor Theophilus, one of the many characters the Rev. Joel Krueger, co-pastor of the church, dons throughout the year, will visit the congregation. The professor will share his enthusiasm for religious education with children and adults.
Registration for Sunday school also will be held Sunday.
A program called First Church Today will be held after the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, Sept. 16. It will welcome newcomers, offer tours of the facility and explain church programs.
“Faith Formation Through the Seasons is based on the belief that we are formed in the faith by the practices we engage in throughout the years,” Krueger said in a press release. “The seasons are a tool that focus us differently than our cultural calendar which is primarily organized around economics.
“The liturgical calendar,” he continued, “brings us to deeper and broader concerns while it surrounds us with familiar images, challenging stories and rituals which immerse us in the life of God.”
