Central trips Stearns on Haney goal in OT

MILLINOCKET – Hilary Haney scored the second of her two goals on a breakaway with three minutes left in the second overtime as the Central Red Devils earned a 2-1 high school field hockey victory over the Stearns Minutemen Monday.

Haney scored a first-half goal which was assisted by Rachel Trafton for the 4-2 Red Devils. Kara Voisine had six saves on 10 shots.

Adriana Eurich scored a second-half goal for 5-2 Stearns, with Paige Curtis notching the assist. Alyssa Beaulieu stopped 13 of 14 shots.

JV: 2-2

Foxcroft 1, Dexter 0

At Dexter, Kelsey Boss scored 8:23 into the game off a Molly Cyr assist to lead Foxcroft Academy past Dexter.

This was the completion of a suspended game from Aug. 31 for rain. The came was postponed after the 11 minute mark.

Renee Maheu made six saves on eight shots for 5-1 Foxcroft.

Sam Conway turned away eight of nine shots for 5-1 Dexter.

JV: Dexter 2-1

Belfast 3, MCI 1

At Pittsfield, Christine Hill scored two goals to lift Belfast over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Crystle Kirby added a goal for the 3-1-1 Lions. Paxton Mohney and Leann Donovan combined for 10 saves on 11 shots.

Kailee Merrfield scored a second-half goal for 1-6 MCI. Kayla Michaud stopped six of nine shots.

JV: Belfast 1-0

Hermon 4, Piscataquis 2

At Hermon, Lily Barry scored three goals and assisted the other to lift Hermon over Piscataquis of Guilford.

Julie McDonald scored 2-4 Hermon’s first goal. Jaimie Beers and Katrice Bryant both provided an assist. Carrie Cole made eight saves on 11 shots.

Alisea Quimby scored both goals for 0-6 Piscataquis on assists from Annie Agnew. Brianna Tweedie stopped nine of 15 shots.

JV: Hermon 1-0

Messalonskee 4, Bangor 0

At Oakland, MacKenzie Labbe scored a goal and assisted on three others to lift Messalonskee over Bangor. Beth Ridley stopped all six shots.

Hilary Babin made 16 saves on 20 shots for Bangor.

JV: Bangor 1-0

Cony 4, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Christina Wing had two goals and Kristen Felt two assists as Cony of Augusta downed Brewer. Natalie Fecteau stopped both shots she faced.

Angela Patterson and Melissa Dunn combined for 16 saves on 20 shots for 0-5-1 Brewer.

JV: Cony 1-0

Mattanawcook 3, Old Town 1

At Old Town, three different players netted unassisted goals for the Lynx of Lincoln in the win.

Michelle Paul, Bree Souers and Bre Hanscom all scored for 5-1 Mattanawcook. Sarah French saved 13 of 14 shots.

Elexa Wickerson scored for 2-4 Old Town. Danyle Bubar saved eight of 11 shots.

JV: Mattanawcook 2-1

Orono 2, John Bapst 1

At Bangor, Elizabeth Vinal scored goals 6:19 apart in the second half to break a scoreless tie and lead Orono past John Bapst.

Amber Saucier made four saves on nine shots for the 3-4 winners.

Kelsey McGrath scored for John Bapst with 13:33 remaining off a Shannon O’Connor assist.

Hillary Laferriere finished with seven saves on 12 shots.

JV: John Bapst 3-0

Boys soccer

MCI 7, Rockland 2

At Rockland, Owen Campbell scored five times to push Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield past Rockland.

Ross Hammond had a goal and two assists for MCI and Nathan Capleton added a goal and an assist. Casey Edgerton made eight saves on 14 shots.

Ian Ellis blocked 10 of 25 shots for Rockland.

Mount View 8, Gardiner 2

At Thorndike, Eben Estell had three goals and Alex Pierel two goals and three assists as Mount View rolled over Gardiner.

Dylan Keller had two goals and an assist and Justin Pierel a goal and assist for the 4-1-1 Mustangs. Ethan Jean had four saves on eight shots.

Kory Childs stopped 17 of 40 shots for Gardiner.

Presque Isle 4, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Russ Mortland scored twice to lead the Wildcats to victory over Old Town.

Parker Hovey and Gerard Desjardins added goals for 4-1-1 Presque Isle. Warren Zubrick and Ethan Hill both provided an assist. Dillon Kingsbury and Mark Carvell didn’t have to make any saves on three shots.

Chad Paradis scored a second-half goal on a Luke Bartlett assist for the 2-3 Coyotes. Ethan Shanley blocked seven of 14 shots.

JV: Presque Isle 3-1

Bangor Christian 4, Orono 3

At Bangor, Patriot Brett Bradford was able to boot home a ball past Red Riot goalie Nate Peterson with 1:56 left as Bangor Christian held off Orono.

Wontaek Oh assisted on Bradford’s game-winning goal and scored a goal of his own. Phil Dougherty added two goals and an assist, and Zach Kutz chipped in with two assists. Sam McLeod stopped five of 11 shots for the 6-0 Patriots.

Brandon Paul scored for the 1-4 Red Riots to tie the game at 3-3. Lee Hecker and Paul Ohno each added a goal, and Ian Staples recorded an assist. Peterson stopped seven of 19 shots.

JV: Bangor Christian 2-0

Hampden 7, Skowhegan 2

At Hampden, Maic Frieden scored two goals and assisted on another as Hampden Academy rolled past Skowhegan.

Brad Haase notched two goals, while John D’Haiti, Nate Burke and Nate Clark each had one for the 4-2 Broncos. Cam Cox had three saves on five shots.

Shane Mantinteau and Hank Davis netted a goal apiece for 0-6 Skowhegan. Nick Beaulieu stopped 11 of 22 shots.

JV: Hampden 2-0

Girls soccer

Penobscot Valley 1, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Molly Thompson scored the winning goal with 36:16 left in the second half to lead Penobscot Valley of Howland past Schenck.

Julie Theriault made 12 saves on 19 shots for the 2-4 Howlers.

Tricia Hobbs blocked 11 of 17 shots for the 0-5 Wolverines.

Hampden 5, Skowhegan 1

At Skowhegan, Michaela Stephenson scored three goals and assisted on another as Hampden Academy downed Skowhegan.

Lindsey Martin and Abby Neill added a goal apiece for the 4-2 Broncos. Michelle Wells stopped one out of nine shots.

Sarah Jane-Mackey scored for 0-6 Skowhegan, and Crystal Johnson stopped nine of 23 shots.

JV: Hampden 2-0

Bangor 3, Lawrence 1

At Fairfield, Amy Hackett scored a goal and assisted on another to pace the Rams’ victory.

M.J. Boyce and Elisa Estabrook added a goal apiece for 4-2 Bangor and Annie McKay an assist. Kortnie Hudgens stopped 10 of 18 shots.

Katie Hopkins scored for 4-2 Lawrence, while Ashlie Bonney had 18 saves on 25 shots.

JV: Bangor 7-0
