Dorsos’ goals power Eagles to win over Terriers

WATERVILLE – Elisha Dorso’s tiebreaking goal with a minute left in the first half propelled Husson College of Bangor to a 3-1 field hockey victory over Thomas on Tuesday.

Erica Dorso added an insurance goal for the Eagles in the second half.

Michelle Barden gave Husson a 1-0 first-half lead, but Alyssa Audie of Thomas scored the equalizer later in the period.

Kelly Boccino made one save on four shots for 2-2 Husson. Drielle Mitchell made 11 saves on 21 shots for 0-2 Thomas.

UMF 3, St. Joseph’s 0

At Farmington, Andrea Tyler, Ashley Wentworth and Kristin Chambers each scored a goal to lead the University of Maine-Farmington to victory.

Chambers and Tyler each added an assist for the Beavers.

Kaeleigh Barker earned the shutout in goal with five saves on seven shots for 2-1 UMF.

Kathleen Simoes made six saves on 13 shots for 4-2 Saint Joseph’s of Standish.

Men’s soccer

Boston College 8, Maine 0

At Chestnut Hill, Mass., Alejandro Bedoya had a goal and three assists and Reuben Ayama had a goal and two assists as the nation’s No. 13-ranked team dealt Maine its fifth straight loss.

Paul Gerstenberger, Sherron Manswell and Satoshi Mitsuda each had a goal and an assist with Shawn Chin, Ryan Sherman and Dan Lane scoring the other goals.

Chris Brown had two saves and Michael Lawless wasn’t forced to make one for the 4-1 Eagles.

Ben Piotrowski made six saves for the 1-5 Black Bears.

BC outshot Maine 21-6.

Bowdoin 3, So. Maine 0

At Brunswick, goals by Micah Grueber, Ben Denton-Schneider and Tim Prior led Bowdoin to the shutout victory.

Nathan Lovitz made two saves in goal for 4-0 Bowdoin. David Kreps made nine saves for 4-2-1 Southern Maine of Gorham.

Women’s soccer

Colby 4, Husson 1

At Waterville, Meggie Herlihy scored two goals and Katie McCabe handed out two assists as Colby thumped Husson of Bangor.

Whitney Lynn added a goal for the 2-2 White Mules, and their other goal was scored when a Husson defender deflected the ball into the net. Loni Pisani and Kathleen Nicholson combined for four saves on seven shots.

Caitlyn Butterfield scored on a penalty kick for 2-4-1 Husson, and Tatyana Wolterbeek and Jennifer Plourde teamed up to stop 11 of 24 shots.
