‘Love That Barbershop’

ORONO – The Maine-ly Music Chorus brings the sounds of barbershop back to the University of Maine campus this weekend as the group presents its annual show.

Titled “Love That Barbershop,” the show will feature the Bangor-based chorus and is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Minsky Recital Hall, just behind UM’s Maine Center for the Performing Arts.

Admission is $10, with a portion of the proceeds going to the chorus’ designated charities – United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Maine and Harmony Foundation.

Two quartets comprising chorus members also will perform, and the special guest quartet will be The DJs, among the top finishers in the Northeastern District’s most recent competition. Warren Burns, a longtime educator and former member of the chorus, will be master of ceremonies.

“The theme of the show is kind of a play on words,” said Harry Michaud, show chairman. “It reflects our members’ love of singing, as well as indicating that many of the songs we’ll perform have to do with love.”

Tickets for the concert are available at the door, from any member of the chorus, or by calling 989-4945.

Lovitz trained with Al Gore’s Climate Project in Nashville, Tenn., and is now clean energy outreach coordinator for the resources council.

She will address the current and predicted impacts of a changing climate, such as rising sea levels, and will focus on individual, community-level and state policy solutions. She will discuss the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and the opportunities it will represent for Maine’s environment and economy.

The event is sponsored by the Cool Bangor Coalition and is free. Light refreshments will be provided.
