ALFRED – A former Maine lawmaker was ordered to jail for 60 days Thursday for theft and forgery involving state Clean Election funds.
Peter Throumoulos, 58, of Old Orchard Beach was sentenced to four years behind bars, with all but 60 days suspended, followed by three years probation.
Throumoulos was found guilty in August of stealing $18,000 in connection with his 2004 state Senate race, and of attempting to steal a similar amount in his 2006 state Senate race. Jurors also found him guilty of three counts of aggravated forgery for turning in fake signatures on election petitions.
Throumoulos served two terms in the Legislature in the 1970s.
