YORK – Just five months after turning 55, Mark Plummer of Manchester made New England Golf Association history Thursday when he captured the 2007 New England Senior Championship title following a two-hole playoff at York Golf & Country Club. With the victory, Plummer became the first player in NEGA history to capture both the New England Amateur (1979, 1994) and the New England Senior Championships.

Plummer, who capped off the two-day tournament with a second-round score of 7-over-par 77, is a 13-time winner of the Maine State Amateur Championship. He also is the first golfer in Maine history to capture the Maine Junior, Amateur and Senior Championships.

Plummer drained a 16-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to defeat Greg Karakashian of Stanley Golf Club (Conn.). After entering the final round with a two-stroke lead, Plummer ran into trouble as two bogeys, one double bogey and one birdie led to a 3-over par 38 front nine. On the back nine, two bogeys, one birdie and an uncharacteristic triple bogey on the 200-yard, par-3 14th hole opened the door to the rest of the field.

Three competitors – Plummer, Karakashian and Ken Moller of Bretwood Golf Club (N.H.) were in a three-way tie for first place with final scores of 5-over-par 145.
