Foxcroft victory puts Philpot at 300 wins Hutchinson scores deciding goal in OT

CORINTH – Emily Hutchinson scored the game-winning goal with 7:31 remaining in double overtime to give Foxcroft Academy a 2-1 field hockey win over Central and coach Gene Philpot a career benchmark.

The victory was the 300th in Philpot’s 31-year coaching career at Foxcroft.

Kelsey Boss scored the first goal off a pass from Jen Gagnon. Renee Maneau made 10 saves on 17 shots for the 7-1 Ponies.

Hillary Haney netted a goal for Central off a Eliza Underhill assist. Kara Voisine stopped 14 of 16 shots for the 4-4 Red Devils.

JV: Central 2-1

Gardiner 7, Bangor 0

At Bangor, Ashley Work had a hat trick with three goals to lead Gardiner past Bangor.

Kristin Seymour had two goals and two assists for Gardiner. Hailey Chadbourne and Kaylee Heath both added a goal. Melissa Breton stopped all six shots for the shutout.

Hilary Babin made 21 saves on 28 shots for Bangor.

Edward Little 2, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Miranda Martin and Katelyn Williamson scored second-half goals to lead Edward Little of Auburn to victory over Brewer.

Diana Kruszewski assisted Williamson’s goal for 4-4-1 Edward Little. Kayla Cummings blocked all 10 shots for the shutout.

Angela Patterson made 14 saves on 19 shots for 0-8-1 Brewer.

Old Town 3, John Bapst 0

At Old Town, Sarah Wilcox scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Old Town Coyotes past John Bapst of Bangor.

Elexa Nickerson scored one goal and Danyle Boobar had nine saves on 13 shots for the 4-4 Coyotes.

Hillary Laferriere made 13 saves on 17 shots for the 0-8 Crusaders.

Maranacook 2, Belfast 1

At Belfast, Zoie Kaley scored the game winning goal with 0.6 seconds left in the game to lift Maranacook of Readfield past Belfast.

Amanda LaPort tied the game in the second half with a goal assisted by Tia Levins. Darcy Wilkins stopped six of seven shots for the 8-1 Black Bears.

Crystle Kirby scored a goal in the second half for Belfast. Paxton Mohoney and Leann Donovan made five saves on seven shots for the 5-2-1 Lions.

Football

Bangor 61, Edward Little 0

At Auburn, the Bangor Rams amassed 580 yards in total offense en route to their third victory of the season.

Kyle Vanidestine led Bangor’s offense with 160 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Shane Walton also scored twice for 3-1 Bangor, which built a 35-0 halftime advantage.

Seven different Bangor players had a touchdown, including Adam Billings on a 6-yard run for the first score of the game, Tyler Pembroke, Nathan Lewis, Scott Simonds and Ryan Robichaud.

Bangor totaled 486 rushing yards on 52 carries and 94 yards through the air on 5 of 9 passing.

The Rams return to action Friday night at home against 4-0 Skowhegan. That will mark the first of two straight games against undefeated foes, as Bangor then will play at 4-0 Lewiston on Friday, Oct. 5.

Edward Little falls to 0-4 on the season.

At Readfield, Cory Palmer and Pat Norwood each scored three touchdowns as Maranacook improved its record to 2-2.

Brent Hewett added a pair of touchdowns for Black Bears which built a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.

Quarterback Mike Brennan threw two touchdown passes for Maranacook and also rushed for one two-point conversion and kicked three extra points.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Kyle Corrigan scored five times to lift Caribou over Foxcroft Academy.

Jarryd Rossignol, Nate Rossignol and Bryan Schurman scored for 9-1 Caribou. Eric Brown stopped all eight shots for the shutout.

Mat Anderson made 14 saves on 22 shots for 0-7 Foxcroft.

MDI 3, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Carl Fern tallied a goal and an assist as Mount Desert Island shut out Old Town.

Jake Minctons and Tarek Dekkaki each added a goal while Tyler Steel had an assist. John Joseph stopped all nine shots he faced for the 4-1-1 Trojans.

Ethan Shanley made 11 saves on 17 shots for the 3-4 Coyotes.

Dexter 4, Piscataquis 1

At Dexter, Devin Grant scored two goals and assisted another to lead Dexter past Piscataquis of Guilford.

Rick Stewart also scored two goals for 7-0-1 Dexter. Ethan Woodman and Lee Gustin had assists. Chris Eastman stopped five of eight shots.

Josh Herrick scored with 18:24 left in the second half off of a Brian Hackett assist for 4-3 Piscataquis. Corbin Shufelt made 12 saves on 19 shots.

Skowhegan 6, Nokomis 1

At Skowhegan, Keyan McPheson and John Wheaton both scored two goals to lead Skowhegan past Nokomis of Newport.

Shane Martineo and Nick McCann both added a goal for 1-6 Skowhegan. Justin Enman, Sebastian Dumont and Eric Axelman provided assists. Nick Beaulieu turned away eight of 10 shots.

Jordan Woodbury scored off of a Ben Porter assist for 0-8 Nokomis. Mark Gustin and Mike Woodbury combined for 15 saves on 25 shots.

Katahdin 3, Bangor Chr. 3 (2OT)

At Stacyville, Katahdin’s Matt Tarr and Sam McLeod of Bangor Christian didn’t allow a goal in the second half or two overtimes.

Marshall Davis scored off of a Andy Kay assist with 10:10 left in the first half to tie it at 3-3 for 4-3-1 Katahdin.

Billy Duffy scored on a Ethan Qualey assist and Davis added another goal. Tarr blocked five of 15 shots.

Brett Bradford scored twice for Bangor Christian who remain undefeated at 7-0-1. Brandon Wilcox added a goal as McLeod made five saves on 22 shots.

DI-Stonington 0, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Schenck and Deer Isle-Stonington combined for 56 shots through regulation play and two overtimes, but the team battled to a scoreless stalemate.

Lanny Thompson made 16 saves on 23 shots for 2-3-2 Schenck, while Joe Carter made 16 saves on 33 shots for 2-3-2 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Brewer 1, Lawrence 0

At Fairfield, Ryan Nadeau scored the game winning goal in the first half to lead Brewer by Lawrence.

Evan Nadeau grabbed the assist while Chris Brady and Joe Cookson combined to make nine saves on 11 shots for the Witches.

Cody Fabian stopped 14 of 19 shots for the Bulldogs.

Girls soccer

Caribou 5, Foxcroft 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jenna Selander scored twice to lead Caribou past Foxcroft Academy.

Liz Barbosa, Christine Savage and Ali Richards scored for Caribou. Brittany Doak made 11 saves on 19 shots.

Megan Taylor scored a second-half goal for Foxcroft. Sarah Whittemore turned away 12 of 19 shots.

Bangor Christian 4, Katahdin 0

At Stacyville, Christin Pelletier scored twice to lift Bangor Christian over Katahdin.

Katherine Bragg had a goal and two assists for the Patriots. Demelza Ramirez added a goal and Kelly Robinson provided an assist. Moriah Bach stopped all seven shots.

Kayla Stevens made eight saves on 12 shots for previously undefeated Katahdin.

Old Town 1, MDI 0

At Bar Harbor, Annie Cashon made eight saves on 11 shots to help the Coyotes shut out the Mount Desert Island Trojans.

Tiffany Gammon scored a first-half goal for 4-3 Old Town.

Elizabeth Sargent made eight saves on 11 shots for 0-7 MDI.

GSA 2, Orono 1 (2OT)

At Orono, Leah Mattson scored two goals including the game winning goal with one second remaining in the second overtime to lift George Stephens Academy of Blue Hill past Orono.

Kayla Easton made three saves on six shots for the 6-0-1 Eagles.

Meghan Curtis scored a goal for Orono to tie the game late in the second half while Michelle Georgia had the assist. Brittney Pinkham made 10 saves on 14 shots for the 6-1 Red Riots.

Hampden 0, Mt. Blue 0 (2OT)

At Hampden, Michelle Wells of Hampden Academy and Emily Deane of Mt. Blue didn’t allow a goal through regulation and two overtimes.

Wells made three saves on 11 shots for 5-2-1 Hampden.

Deane had there saves on 14 shots for 5-2-1 Mt. Blue of Farmington.

Bangor 3, Messalonskee 0

At Bangor, Amy Hackett scored all three goals to lead Bangor past Messalonskee of Oakland.

Rachel Roberts and Casey Hartley provided assists for the Rams and Kortnie Hudgens stopped five of eight shots.

Eloise Douglass and Katie Bingham combined for 17 saves on 23 shots for the Eagles.

Schenck 3, DI-Stonington 1

At East Millinocket, Jade Bouchard and Sam York each tallied a goal and an assist to lead Schenck by Deer Isle-Stonington.

Courtney MacLeod added a goal for Schenck while Leann Toothaker made 10 saves on 17 shots for the 1-6 Wolverines.

Meaghan Robinson netted a goal while Anika Powers and Britnie Jones combined to make 15 saves on 20 shots for the 2-7 Mariners.

Central 1, Penobscot Valley 0

At Corinth, Kelsi McHugh kneed a chip-in from Molly Chretien into the net from the penalty stripe 7:13 into the game and the Central Red Devils made the score stand up.

Jana Philbrick notched her first shutout of the season for the 2-5 Devils with 10 saves on 11 shots.

Julie Theriault made 24 saves on 43 for the 2-5 Howlers.

Lawrence 5, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Courtney Langley and Katie Hopkins each netted two goals to power Lawrence of Fairfield by Brewer.

Bailey Paquette added a goal for Lawrence while Jessica Poulin stopped all 11 shots she faced for the 5-3 Bulldogs.

Carolyn Tuck made 15 saves on 20 shots for the 2-6 Witches.

Shead 4, Calvary Chapel 2

At Eastport, Kirby McPhail had a hat trick with three goals to lead Shead to victory over Calvary Chapel of Orrington.

Robyn Stuart had a goal and an assist for 2-5 Shead. Whitney Vinson provided two assists and Shelly Melanson added an assist. Dorothy Pottle turned away six of 10 shots.

Ashley Pomeroy and Meagan Warman scored for 2-4-2 Calvary Chapel. Hannah Lacadie blocked 13 of 22 shots.
