AUGUSTA – Maine’s August unemployment rate was 4.8 percent, unchanged from July’s rate, the state Labor Department said.
The 4.8 percent figure was 0.10 of a percentage point higher than the rate for August 2006. It also compares with the national unemployment rate of 4.6 percent for August 2007.
State Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said labor market conditions changed little between July and August of this year. The figures are adjusted to reflect seasonal fluctuations in labor market conditions.
Maine’s August rate was more than a percentage point higher than New Hampshire’s 3.6 percent.
