BROWNVILLE – The resignation for personal reasons of Todd Lyford as police chief was accepted by selectmen Friday during an emergency board meeting.

Selectmen discussed the short- and long-term operation of the police department and granted Town Manager Sophia Wilson the authority to maintain the department with the current staffing. That means the town will have one full-time officer and several part-time officers.

Cpl. Nick Clukey, the full-time officer, will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, according to Wilson.

Wilson said the board will discuss the options further for the police department at their 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 meeting, at the Brownville Elementary School.
