Driver in toddler’s death wanted on traffic warrant Police await drug, alcohol tests on Rockland woman

ROCKLAND – The woman who is accused of running over and killing a toddler at the Steven Green Apartments on Monday was arrested on an outstanding warrant after the incident.

Deputy Police Chief Wallace Tower said that Crystal Davey, 22, of Rockland was arrested at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Davey was taken to the hospital in the aftermath of the incident to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing, a requirement in the case of any fatal accident. She was booked at the Knox County Jail and released on $100 bail.

Davey was the driver of the Pontiac Grand Am that ran over 2-year-old Connor Knight who was playing in the apartment parking lot. Davey hit the boy while backing up. The accident at the Lovejoy Street apartments occurred at 3:30 p.m. Knight died from head and facial injuries. Davey is a resident of the apartment complex. Knight lived there with his mother.

Tower said Tuesday that police were awaiting the outcome of the drug and alcohol tests administered to Davey. “We are consulting with the District Attorney’s Office,” Tower added.

Patrolman Lloyd Daniels is the investigating officer.
