Frenchboro favorites

The island of Frenchboro – located 8 miles off Bass Harbor – is an inspiring place. So it’s no surprise that “Favorite Island Recipes,” the new cookbook published by the Frenchboro Congregational Church, is full of inspired recipes. Spice it up with Texas Hot Barbecue Sauce, satisfy your savory tooth with Creamy Brie and Basil Pasta or stick to the tried-and-true Lobster Roll. Any way, the recipes are as delicious as the views. The cookbook costs $15.95. For information or to order a copy, contact Islandport Press at 688-6290 or visit www.islandportpress.com.

An apple a day

Calling all cooks: The Page Farm and Home Museum on the University of Maine Campus will hold its first Old-Fashioned Apple Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Among the highlights of the event is an apple recipe tasting bee. Entrants should bring their favorite apple dish to share (already prepared, and it should be there by noon), along with two copies of the recipe, one of which will be included in an Apple Fest cookbook. In addition, there will be an apple tasting and talks about selecting and caring for apple trees. For information, call 581-4100.
