Big School (Classes A-B)

COREY PARK

Park, a senior on the Presque Isle cross country team, raced to the boys individual title at the 58th annual Sectional Invitational meet held in Old Town. Park was timed in 17 minutes, 1.37 seconds on the 3.1-mile course to best second-place Spencer McElwain of Caribou by more than 20 seconds.

Small School (Classes C-D)

NICK SMITH

Smith, a senior running back for the John Bapst of Bangor football team, rushed for 169 yards on 31 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Crusaders scored their third straight victory by besting Stearns of Millinocket 26-0.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

HEATHER SPURLING

Spurling, a junior on the Mount Desert Island cross country team, captured the girls’ individual title at the Sectional Invitational meet in Old Town last weekend. Spurling, who outkicked Old Town senior Hilary Maxim to win in 19:23.59 while leading the Trojans to the team title.

Small School (Classes C-D)

AMANDA GIFFORD

Gifford, a senior on the Lee Academy soccer team, reached the 100-goal plateau for her career, scoring three goals in an 11-0 victory over Deer Isle-Stonington Tuesday afternoon. Gifford, who has 102 career goals, joined an elite group in the 100-goal club that is headed up by former Pandas’ star Shelby Pickering with 177.
