BANGOR – A mural depicting the violent end of the Al Brady gang in 1937 will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Epic Sports, 6 Central St.

Painted by the late artist Leon Treadwell in the late 1970s, the rarely-seen 16-foot-by-6-foot color painting has been in storage for decades. It is owned by Dale and Linda LeClair of Bangor and will be on display in the store’s window, not far from the site of the Oct. 12 shoot-out, through Monday, Oct. 8.

Other local events will precede a re-enactment of the shootout.

. A Public Works crew will install granite paving stones on Central Street marking the spots where Al Brady and Clarence Lee Shaffer Jr. fell after being shot by FBI agents. Donated by Richard Coffin, owner of Rogan’s Memorials, the stones are expected to be in place after the completion of street resurfacing.

. Gerry Palmer, playing the role of Shep Hurd, and Dick Shaw, as Al Brady, will present historical talks on the gang at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Hammond Street Senior Center, 2 Hammond St. The discussions are free and open to the public.

“Flashes From the Past: The Day the Brady Gang Came to Bangor” will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, beginning with a 2 p.m. antique auto parade. Activities also include a 3 p.m. re-enactment of the shooting on Central Street, and a dance at 4 p.m. featuring Wicked Blue bluegrass and the Skyliners dance orchestra.
