Nemer powers Ashland past Warriors 5-0 Ellsworth girls nip Wildcats as Huebner notches winner

DYER BROOK – Carl Nemer netted two goals and added an assist to power Ashland to a 5-0 schoolboy soccer win over Southern Aroostook Wednesday.

Tyler Cote, Nick Gimbel and Jacob Paradis each added a goal for Ashland. Lucas Belanger made nine saves on 12 shots for the 9-1-1 Hornets.

Colby Clark stopped 16 of 24 shots for the 5-4-2 Warriors.

Woodland 3, Narraguagus 1

At Woodland, Chad James tallied two goals to lead Woodland by Narraguagus of Harrington.

Ben Sears scored a goal while Cody Sappier had an assist for Woodland. Dan Proulx stopped 19 of 20 shots for the 5-2-2 Dragons.

Gustavo Ortiz converted a direct kick while Brandon Meserve made 21 saves on 24 shots for the 2-5-1 Knights.

Washington Acad. 2, Calais 1

At Calais, Young Gi scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the first half to lead Washington Academy of East Machias by Calais.

Steve Knowles added a goal while Josiah Jackson made 15 saves on 28 shots for the 8-0-1 Raiders.

Nate O’Neil converted a penalty kick for Calais. Dylan Ramsdell made 20 saves on 24 shots for the 5-4 Blue Devils.

Machias 3, Jonesport-Beals 0

At Jonesport, goals by Jacob Stevens, Michael Little and Noah Prescott carried the visiting Bulldogs past Jonesport-Beals.

Justin Weaver had 13 saves on 21 shots for the 7-1-1 Bulldogs.

Sid Look saved 21 of 35 shots for the 1-7 Royals.

Girls soccer

Ellsworth 3, Presque Isle 2

At Ellsworth, Gabi Huebner scored the game-winning goal with 28:08 remaining to lift Ellsworth past Presque Isle.

Emily Lyons had a goal and an assist while Lauren Peer added a goal. Rachel Arkin made four saves on seven shots for the 4-2-2 Eagles.

Sarah Porter and Kayla Legassie each scored for Presque Isle. Kelsey Park made six saves on 11 shots for the 6-2-2 Wildcats.

JV: Ellsworth 1-0

Ashland 7, So. Aroostook 2

At Dyer Brook, Jacky Raymond netted two goals to propel Ashland by Southern Aroostook.

Mindy Chasse, Jackie O’Ozier, Suzie Poulin, Macie Pelkey and Jessica Jimmo each added a goal while Whitney Flint and Jimmo had an assist apiece. Taylor Baker made six saves on 10 shots for the 8-0-2 Hornets.

Brittany Charette and Janel Rockwell each scored for Southern Aroostook. Emily Cummings stopped 10 of 20 shots for the 6-5 Warriors.

Piscataquis 2, Penquis 1

At Guilford, Christine Davis scored her second goal in a span of 1 minute, 46 seconds with 17:50 left in the second half, sparking the Pirates past the Patriots.

The only goals of the contest were scored in a span of 3:40 in the second half.

Kayla Webb put Penquis of Milo (1-8) on the board with an unassisted breakaway goal with 21:10 to play. Davis answered 1:34 later, scoring off a long pass from Mallory Izbicki to make it 1-1.

Davis then converted a Cassie Tardiff feed for 5-2-1 Piscataquis. Jill Martell made seven saves on eight shots.

Erica Lyford racked up 21 saves on 23 shots for Penquis.

Field Hockey

Foxcroft Acad. 3, Piscataquis 0

At Foxcroft, Jill Champeon, Emily Hutchinson and Molly Cyr each scored to lead Foxcroft Academy by Piscataquis of Guilford.

Kayla Clukey and Jen Gagnon each grabbed an assist for Foxcroft. Renee Maheu made one save on one shot for the 8-2 Ponies.

Brianna Tweedie stopped 39 of 42 shots for the 0-9 Pirates.

JV: Foxcroft 1-0

Mattanawcook 3, Stearns 2 (OT)

At Lincoln, Danielle Nicastro scored with 6:47 remaining in overtime to lift Mattanawcook Academy past Stearns of Millinocket.

Michelle Paul and Brooke Hanscom each tallied a goal while Bree Souers and Nicastro each had an assist. Sarah French made seven saves on 12 shots for the 8-1 Lynx.

Katie Mills and Angela Levesque each scored a goal for Stearns while Mallory Osborne and Mikaela Rosebush each had an assist. Alyssa Beaulieu made nine saves on 16 shots for the 7-3-1 Minutemen.

JV: Stearns 1-0

Dexter 7, Orono 2

At Dexter, Jana Kenney tallied three goals to lead Dexter by Orono.

Jessica Mason, Denise Robinson, Katie Eastman and Chrissy Mountain each added a goal for Dexter. Sam Conley stopped two of three shots for the 9-1 Tigers.

Jillian Tuell and Amy Mares each scored for Orono. Amber Saucier made 15 saves on 21 shots for the 4-7 Red Riots.

JV: Dexter 5-0

John Bapst 4, Hermon 3

At Bangor, Shannon Faley scored the game-winner with 2:20 remaining in the game to lift John Bapst past Hermon.

Maryann Ferguson tallied two goals and two assists while Victoria Vorth and Rebecca Ogden each grabbed an assist. Hillary Laferriere made seven saves on 10 shots for the 1-9 Crusaders.

Lillian Barry, Emily Corey and Jamie Beers each scored a goal for Hermon. Carrie Cole made eight saves on 18 shots for the 2-7 Hawks.
