GRAY – Records fell across Maine on Wednesday as a warm front drove temperatures into the 90s.
In the early afternoon, the temperature in Portland had reached 90 degrees, breaking the record of 84 set in 1961, according to the National Weather Service.
In Bangor, the temperature hit 91 degrees, breaking the record of 88 set in 1930.
Caribou’s high of 81 degrees broke the record of 74 degrees set in 1994, and Houlton’s high of 84 degrees broke a 70-year-old record of 76 degrees.
As of 2 p.m., Sanford was the hot spot in the state at 91 degrees. Augusta came in at 90 degrees and Lewiston reached 88.
Temperatures were expected to cool down on Thursday, but humid conditions were expected to continue.
“A front will move through on Friday bringing more seasonable weather for the weekend with highs in the 60s instead of near 90,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Michael Cempa.
