Orono pub faces fines for liquor violations

The Bear Brew Pub in Orono has been fined more than $5,000 for several liquor violations over the summer, according to Orono Police Chief Gary Duquette.

Six of those violations stemmed from incidents on June 10, in which pub owner Matt Haskell was issued two citations for allowing a minor to possess or consume alcohol on the premises; a third for allowing the same person to remain on the property after he was visibly intoxicated; and a fourth for selling liquor to a minor.

Haskell also was cited on the same date for a separate incident of selling liquor to a minor and allowing an employee to consume alcohol while serving customers, Duquette said Thursday.

A month later, Haskell was cited again for allowing consumption or possession after the legal hour.

Haskell met earlier this week with Duquette and Jeff Austin, supervisor of the state’s Liquor Licensing and Inspections Unit, to discuss the incidents.

“He admitted to everything,” Duquette said. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)
