Nearly all residents in Hancock and Waldo counties who were hit by high winds and thunderstorms earlier this week have seen their electricity restored.
Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. reported only isolated outages remaining late Friday afternoon in the Hancock County towns of Blue Hill, Hancock and Trenton.
Central Maine Power Co., which reported a peak of 5,800 outages late Wednesday night in Waldo County, reported a handful of outages remaining Friday in Belmont, Searsmont and Castine.
The bad weather moved through Waldo and Hancock counties Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Hit particularly hard was Castine, where trees were uprooted and power lines knocked over. Like most of the town, Maine Maritime Academy lost power for several hours Wednesday.
Some residents in Castine reported seeing tornadoes, but a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Caribou said he had heard of no official reports.
“All the reports we’ve gotten have been of high winds,” said Mark Bloomer, adding that drier, more stable weather is forecast for this weekend.
