ORONO – Jordan Colliton scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Black Bears to a season-opening 6-1 women’s hockey victory over Sacred Heart University at Alfond Arena Saturday.

Vanessa Vani had a goal and an assist to pace the 1-0 Bears. The other UMaine goals were scored by Madelene Eriksson, Lexie Hoffmeyer, Jenna Ouellette and Robyn Law. The Bears scored four unanswered goals in the first period. In goal, Genevieve Turgeon and Sarah Bishop combined to make 20 saves on 21 shots. Bishop entered the game in the third period and stopped all nine shots she faced. Ashley Palangi and Amy Stech each had an assist.

For 0-1 Sacred Heart, Gina Amone scored in the second period off a Kristina Feltz assist. Sarah Perry turned aside 23 of 29 shots.
