BELFAST – Richard Hill, a mechanical engineering professor at the University of Maine in Orono, will speak on “Energy Use and Its Relationship to Climate” at the Boathouse at Steamboat Landing as part of the city’s participation in the national “Conversation on Climate Action.” The talk will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4.
The evening was organized by the Energy & Climate Committee, which was formed by the city earlier this year. During the meeting, the committee will give an update on its initial efforts toward climate protection, including recommendations adopted by the City Council and an energy audit completed of city buildings. The meeting also will provide an opportunity for conversation on climate protection.
Belfast is one of several cities in Maine (along with Augusta, Biddeford, Falmouth, Farmington, Portland, Saco and Waterville) to have formally taken steps to work on climate protection, either as a member of the Cities for Climate Protection program or as a signatory to the U.S. Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement. Belfast is participating in both programs. Information on the work of Belfast’s Energy & Climate Committee can be found at belfastgreenstreets.org/climate. Information on the national event can be found at climateconversation.org.
