Cars burglarized, vandalized at 2 UM parking lots

University of Maine police are investigating several reports of cars being burglarized and vandalized during the last few weeks in the Hilltop and Steam Plant parking lots.

Most of the vehicles burglarized have been Hondas. Some windshields have been smashed, while other cars have been scratched with keys.

Police are urging drivers who park in those lots and elsewhere on campus to keep their vehicles locked, keep valuables out of sight, and remove stereo faceplates when they aren’t in use.

A Holden man reported to police Tuesday that a box of valuable baseball cards had been stolen from his home on Sleepy Hollow Drive.

No other items were reported stolen.

The cards are estimated to be worth about $14,000 because they are in “mint condition,” Holden Police Sgt. George Fazell said. The homeowner reported that they disappeared late last week.

“It appears that an unknown person or persons pried the door open sometime around Sept. 28,” Fazell said.

Bangor police were searching the city Tuesday night for a Bangor man who escaped from Acadia Hospital about 6 p.m.

Jason Moulton, 25, bolted past a hospital employee and out a door, police said.

Moulton was to have been returned today to Waldo County Jail, where he was being held on a probation violation. He was admitted to Acadia Hospital from the jail last month for a psychiatric evaluation.

Moulton was arrested on Aug. 20 for allegedly assaulting a woman in Waldo County. That case is scheduled for trial in December in Belfast.

He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall with brown hair and hazel eyes with several tattoos.

A Bangor man was arrested Monday night in the parking lot of Raena’s Pub and charged with illegally possessing marijuana and oxycodone.

Michael E. Gordon, 30, was arrested when police responded to a call about a fight in the bar parking lot about 6 p.m. Gordon and another man were facing off and getting ready to fight when Bangor police Officer Jason Stuart arrived, according to his report.

When Stuart was told by dispatch that there was a warrant for Gordon’s arrest, the officer placed him in handcuffs and put him in the back of the cruiser. A few minutes later, Gordon appeared to be squirming in the seat, so the officer looked in on him.

The officer, according to his report, found bags with marijuana in them under Gordon’s feet. When Stuart had the suspect get out of the cruiser, the oxycodone allegedly fell out of Gordon’s pants leg.

It was not clear from the report why a warrant had been issued for Gordon. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
