Helberg, Thomas rally past Mariners

CASTINE – Taylor Helberg of Winslow and Timothy Costa each scored a goal to erase a 1-0 deficit and lead the Thomas College Terriers to the win over Maine Maritime Academy.

Russell Beckwith made eight saves on 12 shots for the 5-3-3 Terriers. Christopher Vashon notched an assist on the game-winning goal.

For the 2-7-2 Mariners, Omar Chaar scored on a header off a Derrek Belanger assist in the first half. Randy Bartlett had three saves on seven shots.

Field hockey

Bates 3, Husson 1

At Lewiston, Rachel Greenwood, Lindsey Ferguson and Emily Sampson each scored a goal in the first half to lead Bates by Husson.

Samantha Rothkopf, Rachel Gardner and Sema Kazarian each grabbed an assist for Bates. Helena Turner made four saves on 15 shots for the 5-3-1 Bobcats.

Elisah Dorso scored for Husson while Kelly Bocchino made 14 saves on 46 shots for the 7-3 Eagles.

Colby 1, UMF 0 (OT)

At Waterville, Amy Campbell scored with 10:38 left in overtime to lift the Mules to victory over the University of Maine at Farmington at Bill Alfond Field.

Meryl Poulin earned an assist on Campbell’s goal.

Jamie Enos earned her first shutout in goal this season for 2-5 Colby, making four saves on six shots. Kaliegh Barker made 22 saves on 32 shots for 4-3 UMF.

Women’s soccer

Saint Joseph’s 7, Suffolk 1

At Standish, Anna Willis netted two goals to propel Saint Joseph’s by Suffolk.

Brianna Jordan tallied a goal and two assists while Jessica Needham had a goal and an assist. Elizabeth McCarthy, Elizabeth Theberge and Allie Smith each added a goal for Saint Joseph’s. Katye Mayo and Lindsay King combined to make two saves on three shots for the 11-0 Monks.

Jamie Tracy scored a goal while Meghan McDonald made 22 saves on 47 shots for 0-7 Suffolk.

Bowdoin 2, Husson 0

At Brunswick, host Bowdoin College outshot Husson of Bangor 21-3 en route to the win.

Rebecca Sliva and Alex von Gerichten tallied a goal apiece for the 6-2 Polar Bears. Kelly Thomas had two saves.

Tatyana Wolterbeek had 13 saves for Husson, now 6-5-1.

So. Maine 2, Framingham State 0

At Gorham, Samantha Rennie and Lindsay Herzog scored first-half goals to spark Southern Maine’s victory.

Natasha Levandowski and Caitlin Brown grabbed assists for the 5-5 Huskies. Mindy Morneault had two saves on six shots.

Tara Cavalieri stopped seven of 11 shots for 4-5 Framingham State.
