From Cathy Goslin and everyone associated with Leonard’s Mills at the Maine Forest & Logging Museum comes an invitation to “take it outside” during the museum’s annual autumn weekend, Living History Days, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-7, at the museum off Route 178 in Bradley.

Re-enactors portraying our area’s earliest settlers, and demonstrators of later life in a log cabin will participate, Goslin wrote, along with “spinners, weavers, knitters and other fabric artisans” who “will bring the Sawyer’s House alive.”

She hopes you will enjoy viewing the improvements to the water-powered sawmill’s waterwheel and the Nature Trail.

Horse-drawn wagon and bateau rides will be offered, and 20th Maine Civil War re-enactors will be there to greet you.

Food choices include bean-hole beans, reflector oven biscuits and shortcakes, and apple cider, pressed on site.

Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for children 2 to 12, and free for MFLM members.

For information, call 581-2871.

Kathy Gagnon e-mailed that the “Millinocket Historical Society will have open hours for the town museum” 1-3 p.m. “every Thursday through the month of October,” beginning today in the Millinocket municipal building.

“Residents and visitors are welcome,” Gagnon wrote, adding that “MHS also is always interested in accepting donations of articles for the museum or donations toward fundraising efforts.”

One of those efforts is “trying to find a building suitable to house the museum because it has outgrown its current location,” Gagnon wrote.

And, because MHS has not had a building donated for that purpose, “we will be doing some fundraising in the near future,” she added.

It’s a busy weekend for everyone in the Searsport area, and here are two events to add to your to-do list.

First, Pastor Stephen MacLeod and members of Searsport United Methodist Church invite the public “to join us in feasting and fellowship for our monthly turkey supper at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5,” at the church, 43 Main St.

“This is a change from our usual” monthly supper date, MacLeod explained, “to coincide with Searsport’s Fling Into Fall Celebration.

“It is a buffet-style, all-you-can-eat turkey supper with all the trimmings, topped off with your selection of our homemade pies.”

Doors open at 4 p.m., and admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

Proceeds benefit the ministry of the church.

For information, call the church office at 548-2239.

The next day, Natalie Knox reports, all Searsport District High School alumni “are invited to walk with your fellow alums in the Fling Into Fall Parade.”

Lineup is 10 a.m. at Inner Visions on Norris Street, and the parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Searsport.

“Just show up, wearing your finest blue-and-white apparel,” Knox wrote.

For information, call 266-9494.

Cindy Freeman Cyr e-mailed that Womancare’s 11th annual Race To End Domestic Abuse begins with registration at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Piscataquis Community Middle School on Blaine Avenue in Guilford.

The event features a 12K and 5K River Run for a $15 entry fee, and a Paces for Peace Walk with no entry fee. The 12K race is part of the Sub 5 Track Club road race series.

All events begin at 9 a.m.

A pancake breakfast is available for $5 each or $12 for families from 8 to 11 a.m. in the school cafeteria. The awards ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.

Just in case you haven’t noticed, the foliage is terrific this year, and since this event takes you past historic sites and along the Piscataquis River, it should be one of the most delightful race-walks of the fall.

For information, call 564-8165.

Gaile Nicholson reports the Katahdin Valley Health Center fourth annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit diabetes programs begins with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at VaJoWa Golf Club in Island Falls.

Registration is $55 per golfer or $200 for teams (U.S. funds) and includes 18 holes of golf, prizes and dinner after the tournament at Up North Grille.

You can register online at www.kvhc.org, at KVHC clinics, or before 10 a.m. the day of the event. However, Nicholson wrote, “early registration is encouraged.”

For information, call 866-366-5842, 528-8040 or 528-2285, ext. 301.
