PRESQUE ISLE – A local man remains in Massachusetts facing numerous charges after leading police on a high-speed chase with a car he allegedly stole from a residence in Presque Isle over the weekend.
David Harmon, 28, was arrested by officers from the Milton Police Department in Massachusetts on Wednesday, according to Detective Sgt. Wayne Selfridge of the Presque Isle Police Department.
Selfridge said that Harmon was behind the wheel of a 1994 Dodge Intrepid that was reported stolen from a residence on Maple Street just after 9 p.m. Saturday when Milton police encountered the vehicle.
The vehicle had $100 inside it and the keys had been left in the car in the owner’s driveway when it was stolen.
Officers tried to stop the car, but Harmon allegedly refused, leading police on a high-speed chase in which he ran over lawns and across sidewalks in an attempt to escape.
Selfridge said that Harmon reportedly directed the vehicle at police during the incident. He subsequently was arrested and charged with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Harmon was being held without bail in Milton and was scheduled for a court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
The vehicle had some damage to its bumper and fender, according to Selfridge.
Harmon also is wanted in Aroostook County on several outstanding warrants.
Selfridge said that prosecutors in Aroostook County will be talking with officials in Massachusetts to negotiate whether Harmon will remain in Massachusetts to answer to the charges against him there, or first return to Maine to face the charges pending against him in The County.
