Riots nip Bapst as Mares scores in closing seconds

ORONO – Amy Mares went from one side of the field to the other and scored an unassisted goal with 38 seconds left in overtime to give Orono a 1-0 victory over John Bapst of Bangor in a high school field hockey match Thursday.

Amber Saucier made 11 saves on 11 shots for the 5-7 Red Riots.

Hilary Laferriere made 13 saves on 14 shots for 2-10-1 John Bapst.

JV: 1-1

Nokomis 2, MCI 1 (OT)

At Newport, Jordin McGinnis scored the winning goal off a Sabrina Vaillancourt assist with 4:16 left in overtime to lead Nokomis past Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Vaillancourt’s goal with 16 minutes left in regulation tied the score for the 7-6 Warriors, with Erin Knight grabbing the assist. Beth Flanders blocked four of five shots.

Bekah Kallgren scored off a Kristy Huff assist with 9:34 left in the first for the 2-11 Huskies. Kayla Michaud stopped four of six shots.

JV: Nokomis 2-0

Mattanawcook 2, Old Town 0

At Lincoln, Denielle Nicastro scored both goals with Brooke Hanscom assisting each time to lead Mattanawcook Academy to victory over Old Town.

Sarah French stopped seven of 14 shots for the 11-1 Lynx.

Danyle Boobar made five saves on 12 shots for 4-8-1 Old Town.

Mount View 2, Camden Hills 1

At Rockport, Kristen Masessa scored the winner with 1:03 left in overtime to lift Mount View of Thorndike over Camden Hills.

Britany Bowden tied it at 1-1 with 2:13 remaining in regulation for the 8-4 Mustangs. Lindsey Cronin stopped 12 of 14 shots.

Monica Doucette scored with 28:41 left in the second half off of a Kate Fetterman assist for 9-2-1 Camden Hills. Dale Winsper blocked four of six shots.

JV: Mount View 4-0

Bangor 2, Hampden 1 (OT)

At Hampden, Michelle Gist’s second goal came 1:52 into overtime and carried the Rams past the Broncos.

Goalie Hilary Babin made 15 saves on 16 shots for 4-9-1 Bangor.

Anna Lataille tallied for the 0-9-1 Broncos, and Mel Parker made 10 saves on 12 shots.

JV: Hampden 2-1

Girls soccer

Penobscot Valley 5, Sumner 0

At East Sullivan, Lyndsay Drost scored three goals to lead Penobscot Valley of Howland to victory over Sumner.

Erynne Martin and Jordan Leveille added goals for the 5-6 Howlers. Julie Theriault and Jamie Michaud combined to block three of eight shots.

Kaylee House made 32 saves on 49 shots for 0-10 Sumner.

John Bapst 6, Old Town 0

At Bangor, Morgan Chasse had three goals to lift John Bapst over Old Town.

Kristen Willard, Whitney Sinclair and Catherine Lammert each added a goal for 8-0-3 John Bapst. Amanda Martin provided an assist and Sam Maquillian blocked six of nine shots.

Annie Cashon turned away eight of 19 shots for 7-4 Old Town.

Piscataquis 4, Foxcroft 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Christine Davis had a hat trick with three goals to lift Piscataquis of Guilford over Foxcroft Academy.

Stacy Price added a goal for the 8-2-1 Pirates. Jill Martell made 15 saves on 18 shots.

Shee-Ann Sergeant led the 2-10 Ponies with a goal and an assist. Danielle Demers scored a goal and Megan Taylor provided an assist. Sarah Whittemore turned away six of 12 shots.

JV: Piscataquis 5-2

Greenville 1, Valley 0

At Bingham, McKenna Peat scored the winner off of a Rebecca Martel assist with 20:14 left in regulation to lead Greenville past Valley.

Lauren Fling stopped all 18 shots for her sixth shutout for 8-1-1 Greenville.

Allyssa Vitalone blocked 50 of 70 shots for 2-8-1 Valley.

Calvary Chapel 4, Highview 1

At Bangor, Faith Thomas knocked in three goals as Calvary Chapel of Orrington knocked off Highview Christian of Charleston.

Megan Warman added a goal for the 4-5-2 Sabres, while Shiela Francis scored the lone goal for the 0-7 Knights.

Hannah Lacadie had four saves on five shots for Calvary Chapel while Highview’s Elizabeth Hanson blocked 17 of 25.

Boys soccer

Ellsworth 8, Hermon 2

At Hermon, Adam Kaspala scored twice to lead Ellsworth past Hermon.

Luke Haskell, Matt Duhaine, Pat Kelly, Alex Emeigh, Mority Bohm and Andrew Austin scored for Ellsworth. Yonas Millay provided an assist and Greg Berry blocked seven of nine shots.

Nate Lafave and Ryan Kimball each scored a goal for Hermon. Colton Gross had an assist and Cory Johnson made three saves on 22 shots.

JV: Ellsworth 4-0

Old Town 2, John Bapst 0

At Old Town, Tyler Cates scored an unassisted goal in the second half and Dan Zmistowski added an insurance goal with 22 seconds remaining to help Old Town blank John Bapst of Bangor.

Ethan Shanley stopped eight of 11 shots for the 5-6 Coyotes.

Ethan Cushman blocked 11 of 13 shots for the 5-6 Crusaders.

JV: Old Town 1-0

Dexter 2, Orono 1

At Orono, Rick Stewart scored both goals – including the unassisted game-winner with 9:15 left to play – to keep the Dexter Tigers undefeated.

Chris Eastman turned aside five of six shots for the 11-0-2 Tigers. Devon Grant assisted on the first goal.

Brandon Paul scored on a Mark Cloutier assist for the 6-6 Red Riots. Nate Peterson made seven saves on nine shots.

JV: 3-3

Greenville 2, Valley 1

At Bingham, Dakota Harris scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Greenville past Valley.

Richie Chilson scored a first-half goal for 6-3 Greenville and Alex Jardine assisted on Harris’ goal in the second half. Tim Post blocked 12 of 15 shots.

Jackson Sebastian scored on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in the game for 2-7-1 Valley. Tyler Wing made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Calvary Chapel 5, Highview 0

At Bangor, Steven Berenyi scored three goals and assisted on another to push Calvary Chapel of Orrington past Highview Christian of Charleston.

Zack Austin had a goal and an assist for 4-6 Calvary Chapel. Luke Martin added a goal and Colby Downes provided an assist. Devon Warman stopped the only shot he faced.

Nathan Chandler made 13 saves on 18 shots for the 2-5-1 Knights.

So. Aroostook 3, Lee 1

At Dyer Brook, junior Tyler Robinson, playing in his first game in three weeks because of an ankle injury, scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Southern Aroostook past Lee Academy.

Josh Branscombe and Dakota Sleeper both added goals for the Warriors. Colby Clark stopped two of three shots.

Devan Parker scored a second-half goal for Lee and A.J. Harris made 18 saves on 33 shots.

Calais 2, Narraguagus 1

At Harrington, Steven Rogers and Jeremy Carr scored unassisted goals to lead Calais past Narraguagus.

Dylan Ramsdell stopped eight of 10 shots for 7-5 Calais.

Gustavo Ortiz scored with 5:40 left in regulation to cut the deficit in half for 2-8-1 Narraguagus. Brandon Meserve and Brendon Tenney combined for seven saves on nine shots.

Jones.-Beals 1, DI-Stonington 1

At Deer Isle, Josh Faulkingham scored the tying goal with 13 minutes left in regulation for Jonesport-Beals, which tied Deer Isle-Stonington in two overtimes.

Sid Look stopped 25 of 26 shots for 1-9-1 Jonesport-Beals.

Nathan Joyce scored with 38:14 remaining in the second half for 5-3-3 Deer Isle-Stonington. Joe Carter and Brett Gagne combined for 11 saves on 12 shots.

MDI 2, Bucksport 0

At Bucksport, goals by Ben Young and Tyler Steele propelled Mount Desert Island to its eighth victory of the season.

Young scored at 18:49 of the first half on an assist from Mark Pelletier. Steele added an insurance goal with 2:44 left in the match on an assist from Skylar Lewis.

John Joseph made five saves on eight shots for 8-1-2 MDI. Ross Bowden stopped 10 of 15 shots for 1-9 Bucksport.
