BANGOR – A celebration of new ministry will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 255 French St., for the Rev. Marguerite A.H. Steadman.

The 10 a.m. service has been canceled Sunday but will resume Oct. 14.

The Right Rev. Chilton Knudsen, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine, will formally install Steadman as the 31st rector of the church.

Steadman began her tenure as rector last month. The first woman to hold the position, she came to Bangor from Christ Church in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C., where she served for 10 years as an assistant rector and then as priest-in-charge.

A reception will follow the celebration of her ministry.
