Dunkin’ Donuts recalls glow sticks

CANTON, Mass. – The parent company of Dunkin’ Donuts announced on Friday that it is voluntarily recalling about 1 million pink and orange glow sticks distributed in boxes of doughnuts because they pose a potential choking hazard to children.

Canton-based Dunkin’ Brands Inc. said the promotional items were not labeled properly to warn customers that the cap and lanyard, when detached from the glow stick, are a choking hazard to children under 3.

There have been no reports of injuries, the company said.

The coffee and pastry chain distributed the glow sticks free in every box of a dozen doughnuts as well as in 25- and 50-count boxes of Munchkins doughnut holes beginning the week of Sept. 24.

The company recommended discarding the glow sticks right away.
