Smith lifts Bapst by MCI for 5th

BANGOR – Nick Smith ran for four touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass to power the John Bapst football team to a 54-14 victory over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield Saturday night in high school action.

Smith carried the ball 14 times for 148 yards. Chase Huckestein and Bill Weatherbee of John Bapst each ran for a 56-yard touchdown while Smith had a 52-yard scoring run.

Derek Smith scored on a 73-yard punt return in the third quarter and threw the TD pass for the Crusaders.

Mat Delaney led the way for MCI with a 26-yard touchdown run and an 84-yard kickoff return for a score.

Boys soccer

Dexter 2, Penobscot Valley 0

At Dexter, Devon Grant scored a goal and assisted on another as the Tigers picked up their 11th win.

Rick Stewart scored with 23:26 left in the first off a Grant assist for 11-0-2 Dexter and Grant scored thanks to a Lee Gustin assist with 19:33 remaining in the second. Chris Eastman stopped two of four shots for his fifth shutout.

Aaron Awalt blocked nine of 13 shots for the 6-4-2 Howlers of Howland.

Bangor Chr. 5, Katahdin 2

At Bangor, Zach Kutz and Zach Welch each scored two goals and added an assist as the Patriots topped the Cougars of Stacyville.

Brandon Wilcox added a goal and an assist for 10-1-2 Bangor Christian. McLeod stopped nine of 14 shots and recorded an assist.

Marshall Davis scored both goals for 4-6-1 Katahdin. Matt Tarr made 12 saves on 25 shots.

Greenville 3, Shead 0

At Eastport, Kyle Whitman scored two goals and assisted the other to lift Greenville past Shead.

Richie Chilson added a goal for the 7-3 Lakers and Jake Gallant provided an assist. Tim Post blocked all 22 shots for his second shutout.

Tyler Mitchell made 24 saves on 28 shots for the 3-9 Tigers.

Caribou 8, Hermon 0

At Caribou, Kyle Corrigan scored three goals, eclipsing the school’s longstanding single-season scoring record, to help spark the Vikings to victory over Hermon.

Corrigan pushed his 2007 total to 27 goals, breaking the previous mark of 25 goals set in 1976 by Guy Cousins. Cousins is now the girls soccer coach at Hall-Dale High in Farmingdale.

Jarryd Rossignol scored three goals and assisted on four others for 11-2 Caribou, while Jon Noyes provided a goal and an assist. Danny Rush added a goal and Cameron Anderson chipped in with an assist.

Chad McCarthy made five saves on five shots.

Cory Johnson and Jerimy McIntyre combined to make 12 saves on 30 shots for 2-9 Hermon.

Presque Isle 4, Old Town 0

At Presque Isle, Wildcats goalie Dillon Kingsbury saved all 10 Coyote shots to earn his seventh shutout and a victory over Old Town.

Russ Mortland put in two goals to power 10-1-1 Presque Isle. Scott Wilson added a goal and an assist, while Steve Carmichael scored a goal and Eric Morris provided an assist.

Ethan Shanley blocked 25 of 29 shots for the 5-7 Coyotes.

Girls soccer

Bangor Christian 2, Katahdin 1

At Bangor, Kelley Robinson and Katherine Bragg each netted a goal in the first half as Bangor Christian edged Katahdin of Stacyville.

Bragg tallied an assist while Moriah Bach made four saves on six shots for the 9-4 Patriots.

Melissa Duffy scored a goal for Katahdin early in the game off an assist from Kali Rush. Kayla Stevens made 11 saves on 18 shots for the 6-4-2 Cougars.

Greenville 2, Shead 1

At Eastport, Alisha Gilbert booted in a penalty kick with 12:30 left in the second half to break and tie and lift the Lakers past the Tigerettes.

Addie Pelletier’s goal one minute, 48 seconds into the second half tied the game for the 9-1-1 Lakers. Sidney Richardson stopped four of nine shots.

Robyn Stuart scored with 20:05 left in the first off of a Camisha Doten assist for 4-9 Shead. Dorothy Pottle made 21 saves on 24 shots.

Presque Isle 3, Old Town 1

At Presque Isle, Kayla Legassie scored all three goals to push Presque Isle past Old Town.

Sarah Porter provided two assists for the 8-2-3 Wildcats and Hannah Cheney had an assist. Allisen Donovan stopped four of five shots.

Allison Brown scored on a Elise Jordan assist in the first half for 7-5 Old Town. Annie Cashon turned away 22 of 27 shots.

JV: Presque Isle 2-0

Caribou 1, Hermon 0

At Caribou, Ali Richards scored the game-winning goal with 27:57 left in the game to propel the Vikings past the Hawks.

Kristen Espling assisted on the winner while Brittany Doak stopped eight of ten shots for 9-2-1 Caribou.

Megan Herbert made nine saves on 12 shots for 3-8-1 Hermon.

Dexter 5, PVHS 1

At Dexter, Sara Domenech scored three goals and chipped in with an assist as the Tigers rolled to victory over the Howlers of Howland.

Alexis Mitchell added a pair of goals while Alyssa Crane and Miranda Gove each tallied two assists for 6-5-2 Dexter. Ashley Richardson stopped 15 of 19 shots.

Jordan Leveille netted a goal for 5-7 Penobscot Valley while Julie Theriault made six saves on 11 shots.

Searsport 6, Piscataquis 0

At Searsport, Tianna Faunce tallied three goals to power Searsport by Piscataquis of Guilford.

Sarah Bradshaw, Kali Berenyi and Kylie Jettinghoff each posted a goal and an assist. Amanda Chaney and Megan Higgins combined to make 10 saves on 15 shots for the 9-3 Vikings.

Jill Martell made 15 saves on 27 shots for the 7-3-1 Pirates.

Field hockey

Central 2, Dexter 1 (2OT)

At Dexter, Hillary Haney scored the game-winning goal with 1:43 left in the second overtime to help Central of Corinth tip Dexter.

Central’s Rachel Trafton tied the game on a penalty stroke with 7 minutes left in regulation. Alix Rudzinski stopped 10 of 15 shots for the 9-4 Red Devils.

Denise Robinson scored for 10-3 Dexter early in the second half. Michelle Chapman and Jana Kenney each had an assist while Sam Conway made eight saves on 10 shots.

JV: Dexter 1-0

Foxcroft 3, Piscataquis 1

At Guilford Friday, Jen Gagnon scored two goals as Foxcroft earned the win.

Sabrina Sharrow added a goal for the 11-2 Ponies with Kelsey Boss earning an assist. Renee Maheu had six saves on eight shots.

Chelsea Hersey scored for the 0-13 Pirates, with Kaitlin Smith adding an assist. Brianna Tweedie stopped 35 of 48 shots.
