Television Meteorologist Todd Gutner will leave the WCSH 6 Portland News Center in October to join WBZ-TV in Boston, a CBS-owned station.
“It saddens me to leave the News Center family, but working for WBZ-TV is a dream come true. Thank you to my colleagues and the people of Maine for seven unforgettable years. I hope we will cross paths again,” said Gutner.
Gutner came to WCSH 6 in May 2000 from KGO-TV in San Francisco where he served as weather producer for veteran forecaster Spencer Christian and meteorologist Leigh Glaser. In the past seven years, Gutner has served as a staff meteorologist, appearing on weekend morning newscasts from 2000 through 2005, then assigned weekend evening and noon newscasts.
His new assignment at WBZ will be morning and evening weekend newscasts. Gutner will leap from the 76th and 152nd largest U.S. television markets of Portland and Bangor, respectively, to Boston, the seventh ranked market,” said Steve Thaxton, WCSH 6 president and general manager.
Gutner holds a degree in meteorology from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He is a native of West Hartford, Conn. Gutner and his wife, Rachel, live in South Portland.
A search for Gutner’s replacement will begin immediately, Thaxton said.
