HOULTON – The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project and the Domestic Violence Response Program of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians are the sponsors of “Ksuwosun Akonutomakonol: Shawl Stories” exhibit.
The shawl project began in 2006 to honor American Indian victims and survivors of domestic violence. Each shawl was created by members of the native community. Each shawl color represents a facet of domestic violence.
The exhibit is on display in Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project’s Blue Moon Gallery at Visions, 66 Main St., Houlton.
The exhibit’s opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the gallery. The exhibit will be on display Oct. 5 through Nov. 24. Regular business hours for the Blue Moon Gallery and Visions are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon-5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
A candlelight vigil, coordinated by the Domestic Violence Response Program, will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Blue Moon Gallery.
