Born in April 1998, Alexis, a very likable child who tries hard to please those around her, enjoys coloring, drawing and building things with LEGO sets. She is curious, outgoing and talkative.
Alexis is in a multiage classroom for her schooling. She struggles with schoolwork due to language and emotional issues. Alexis’ teachers report she is a very kind-hearted student and likes to help other people, especially the younger students. She is artistic and very neat in her paperwork and coloring. She has been making good progress in school.
Alexis has been able to communicate her desire for a “forever” family. The adults who work with Alexis feel it would be best to have a very slow, well thought out transition from her therapeutic foster home when an adoptive family is identified. Alexis does quite well with younger children and would be a good “big sister.” She also does well with much older children and would do well in a family that had older teenagers in the home.
Adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.
Alexis is among more than 100 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
