Bates carries Red Riots past Tigers Runner gets 109 yards, 3 TDs; Rockland, Waterville, Lawrence cruise

ORONO – Collin Bates rushed for 109 yards on 10 carries and scored on first-half touchdown runs of 38 and 5 yards before opening the second half with a 75-yard kickoff return for his third TD as Orono beat Dexter 52-20 in high school football action Friday night.

Dustin Goudreau piled up 85 yards and two touchdowns on six carries while Ben Perry contributed 39 yards and a touchdown on eight rushes for the Red Riots. Marcus Leek notched eight tackles and a sack and recovered a fumble.

Adam Rush scored on runs of 42 and 5 yards for Dexter, and he finished with 133 yards on 17 carries. Jana Kenney booted a pair of extra points for the Tigers.

At Millinocket, Dylan Mecklin completed 8-of-17 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns to lead Rockland past Stearns.

Andrew Weiss carried the ball eight times for 125 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown run. He also had two touchdown catches of 59 and 64 yards for 5-2 Rockland.

Sam Weiss added a score for the Tigers with a 48-yard run.

Charlie Osborne had 12 carries for 70 yards for the 2-5 Minutemen.

At Old Town, Dan Hussey ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead Waterville past Old Town.

Hussey finished 4-for-6 passing for 83 yards and two touchdowns, while he rushed for 50 yards on nine carries including scoring runs of 6 and 2 yards. Kris Huggins contributed 70 rushing yards on six carries and a score for the Purple Panthers. J.D. Gurski caught both of Hussey’s TD passes, which went for 14 and 55 yards.

T.J. Toole scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge for the Coyotes. Josh Boucher completed five of 12 passes for 126 yards.

At Fairfield, Shawn Champagne carried the ball 11 times for 191 yards and three touchdowns to spark Lawrence of Fairfield by Skowhegan.

Champagne scored on runs of 34 and 50 yards for Lawrence. Nick Nelson had five catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard pass from Jack Hersom.

Devon Costigan scored on a 31-yard run for the Bulldogs.

Zack Whiting had 20 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown for 5-2 Skowhegan.

At Danforth, Chad James scored three goals while Cody Sappier scored two and assisted on three others to spark Woodland’s victory.

Scott Boomer notched a goal and three assists while Ben Sears added a goal for the 9-3-2 Dragons. Dan Proulx had nine saves on 10 shots.

Lucas Gillis scored for 3-11 East Grand. Abe Brittain made 30 saves on 37 shots.
