BROWNVILLE – Voters will act at a special town meeting this week on the submission of a $10,000 planning grant application for regional tourism infrastructure development planning.
The town meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Brownville Elementary School.
If the planning grant is awarded, it will help Brownville, Monson and Greenville create a regional plan to prioritize tourism infrastructure development and to evaluate the public and private resources in each community, according to Brownville Town Manager Sophia Wilson. Brownville is the lead applicant for grant.
Wilson said that once the plan is developed it will serve as a base for future decision-making in the communities.
Residents also will vote on a proposed National Incident Management System Ordinance and vote on a request to use leftover funds in a special police fund to purchase a new in-car radar system to replace a 20-year-old unit.
Wilson said residents at last year’s annual town meeting appropriated $5,000 for in-car cameras. The town was able to get a small grant from the Department of Transportation to purchase two cameras at a cost of $3,200. The remaining funds in the account are what town officials have requested to use for the purchase of the radar system.
