Savage, Doak help Caribou tip Madawaska 1-0

CARIBOU – Christine Savage scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick with 35:14 remaining in the game to lead the Caribou Vikings to a 1-0 schoolgirl soccer win over the Madawaska Owls Saturday.

Brittany Doak stopped eight of 10 shots for the 10-3-1 Vikings.

Stephanie Nadeau made seven saves on 16 shots for 11-2-1 Madawaska.

JV: Caribou 3-0

Fort Fairfield 2, LCS/MSSM 0

At Fort Fairfield, Rose-Mary Williams scored a first-half goal off a Kaitlyn McLaughlin assist, giving the Tigers the only goal they would need in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Brooke Beaulieu scored an unassisted second-half goal for 7-5-2 Fort Fairfield. Kristen Hebert made four saves on six shots.

Melanie Allen made 22 saves on 36 shots for 4-10 Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Sumner 3, DI-Stonington 2

At East Sullivan, Kelsey Tucker scored the game-winning goal with 31:03 remaining in the game as Sumner edged Deer Isle-Stonington for its first win of the season.

Darrian Church and Lona Sargent each added a goal for Sumner. Kaylee House made 18 saves on 24 shots for the 1-13 Tigers.

Leti Douglas and Holly Brewer each netted a goal for the 4-10 Mariners while Anika Powers stopped 11 of 15 shots.

Field hockey

Edward Little 2, Bangor 0

At Auburn, Jocelyn Lahey scored both goals off penalty corners as No. 7 Edward Little ousted No. 10 Bangor.

Karen Leary and Miranda Martin grabbed assists for the 8-6-1 Red Eddies. Kayla Cummings stopped all 12 shots she faced.

Hilary Babin had six saves on nine shots for Bangor, which finishes at 5-9-1.

Football

MDI 21, Nokomis 6

At Newport, Odane Gaynor carried 19 times for 140 yards and a touchdown as Mount Desert Island knocked off Nokomis.

Gaynor’s 81-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter gave Mount Desert Island some breathing room. MDI outgained Nokomis 324-193.

Terrence Jones made four pass receptions for 118 yards, including first-half touchdown catches of 61 and 30 yards.

Adam Amoroso threw a 5-yard TD pass to John Long for Nokomis.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Shane Adkins and Jerod Rideout each returned a punt for a touchdown to spark a 34-point first quarter as the Ponies cruised past Mount View of Thorndike.

Rideout had a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown while Adkins returned one 30 yards for a score.

Ryan Stroud completed all six of his passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Ian Champeon carried the ball three times for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Ben Provost had seven carries for 43 yards and a touchdown for Foxcroft.

Mount View was led by Edwin Santana who was 5-for-14 with 98 yards. Ed Rodrigues had four catches for 78 yards for the Mustangs.

Leavitt 32, Belfast 26

At Belfast, Tyler Green’s 90-yard touchdown run with about eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter gave Leavitt of Turner a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Green’s run came on the first play after the Hornets had stuffed the Lions on a fourth-down play at the 10-yard line.

Green added touchdown runs of 23 yards in the second quarter and a one-yard run in the third. Nick Urquhart opened the scoring for Leavitt with a 70-yard TD scamper on the first play of the game, while Evan Barker contributed an 11-yard touchdown run.

Jake Arthers connected for three touchdown passes for Belfast, a 17-yarder to Ben Felton in the first quarter, a two-yarder to Brandon Drinkwater in the second and an 18-yard strike to Josh Merrifield, also in the second.

Willie Fogg added a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Oak Hill 50, Hampden 22

At Wales, Nick Brown racked up 165 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns to power the Raiders to victory over the Broncos.

Brown had touchdown runs of 3, 7 and 47 yards for Oak Hill, which scored 22 first-quarter points to take charge. The hosts had nearly 300 yards rushing.

Ed Becker scored on a 17-yard run for Hampden Academy, while Steve Smith had a 20-yard TD scamper and Nolan Turner churned out a 32-yard scoring run.
