SOUTH PORTLAND – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine has scaled back its latest rate increase request for individuals who don’t have access to group coverage.

Anthem announced this summer that it was seeking to raise rates across its HealthChoice line by an average of nearly 19 percent.

Citing updated medical claims experience, the insurer now says that figure has been revised downward to just over 13 percent.

About 25,000 people are enrolled in HealthChoice, which serves the self-employed and those who lack insurance through employers.
