Executive director Bev Shumaker has announced that Families and Children Together will host its fourth annual fundraising dinner and auction beginning with hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m. and the silent auction at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and a live auction Friday, Oct. 26, at the Black Bear Inn in Orono.

Tickets are $30 or $200 for a table of eight and can be reserved by calling FACT, 941-2347.

Shumaker reports this auction has something for everyone, including two round-trip Allegiant Air tickets to Orlando, Fla.; an Old Town Canoe Otter kayak; two nights at the Asticou Inn in Northeast Harbor; two nights at the Clefstone Manor in Bar Harbor; two tickets for The Cat; white-water rafting for two; and works of local artisans.

FACT, according to the announcement, “encourages and fosters the development and healing of children living with mental illness or emotional and behavioral challenges” through a variety of services and programs serving families, including adoptive families and children being cared for by relatives.

Two schedules are available to accommodate youngsters who want to attend the Haunted (School) House Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, at Morton Elementary in Dover-Foxcroft, reports Sherry French.

The activities are organized to be age-appropriate, with the haunted schoolhouse reserved 6:30-7:30 p.m. for youngsters in kindergarten through fifth grade and 7:30-9 p.m. for children in sixth grade and older on both dates.

Admission is $2, and includes treats and activities.

French wrote that “several classrooms will be converted into rooms of an old, abandoned schoolhouse for some fiendish fun,” and the evenings include games, prizes “and fun things to do in the gymnasium.”

Led by Keri Foster, the event will benefit the Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming Committee.

This year, the event has moved to a larger location after the success of its first haunted house fundraiser last year.

Costumes are encouraged, French wrote, and anyone with questions or an interest in volunteering for the event should call Foster at 564-7973.

Speaking of Dover-Foxcroft, Mirna Henderson e-mailed that the Foxcroft Academy Spanish, French and international clubs are hosting a hunter’s breakfast 4-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Academy.

The cost is $6 for a breakfast of eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausages and home fries.

The money the students raise will help defray costs of spring trips to Montreal and France.

Writing on behalf of U.S. Cellular, Kelly Whalen reports that business and city of Bangor public service emergency personnel will host Family Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at U.S. Cellular, 33 Bangor Mall Boulevard in Bangor.

Children can learn to dial 911 on cell phones and receive free safety coloring books, and adults can learn about AMBER alerts and other cell phone emergency tools, such as taking a photograph with a cell phone of a child.

John Kidder invites you enjoy a delightful meal with “eggs prepared as you wish” and all the fixings “for the incredible price of $5 per person, or two children under 12 for $5.”

“This is a great opportunity for hunters to get a great meal to sustain them for successful hunting, and for friends and families to gather for good food and conversation before winter finds us all bundled up in our houses,” he wrote.

Colleen Ross reminds you costumes are optional for the Benefit Ball: A 1920s Gala Celebration, hosted by Spruce Run of Bangor, Penobscot County’s domestic abuse service agency.

The ball is 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono and features music and entertainment from the 1920s, with instructor Karen McCall helping you learn to do that era’s favorite dance, the Charleston.
