Essex Street bridge

Essex Street bridge will be closed from Monday, Oct. 22, to July 2008. Essex Street is closed to through traffic from Stillwater Avenue to Burleigh Road. Traffic will be detoured onto Burleigh Road, left onto Broadway, then left onto Stillwater Avenue. Follow detour routes and drive with caution.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 Northbound I-95 traffic will be single-file and shifted from the travel lane to the passing lane immediately after the northbound Broadway offramp. This single line of northbound traffic will be shifted back to the travel lane beyond the Essex Street bridge.

Penobscot River bridge (between the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge and the railroad bridge)

Between Oct. 22 and Oct. 26 this span between Bangor and Brewer will undergo essential repairs. Traffic will be reduced from four lanes to one lane in each direction. Motorists should seek alternate routes and allow plenty of extra time.

Continuing lane closures on I-95

Northbound travel lane, beginning north of Cold Brook Road and extending to a point south of Hammond Street. Passing lane, beginning at Broadway and extending through Stillwater Avenue (should be completed by Wednesday, Oct. 24, if conditions permit). Southbound travel lane, beginning south of Hogan Road and extending to Broadway. Temporary shoulder closures (right shoulder only) will be in effect at various locations northbound and southbound for tree clearing and guardrail operations.

Monday, Oct. 22

Complete work on the Stillwater Avenue bridge (northbound) and shorten lane closure to just north of Broadway. Contractor will be working on Union-Ohio street ramps from 8 to 5 p.m. with periodic ramp restrictions and closures as needed to complete work. Contractor will also have roadway painting operations in effect throughout the project during the evening.
