You have not one but two opportunities to attend the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary 32nd Annual Fashion Show, both on the same day and both carefully planned by chairwoman Mary Clift.
The first show, the Fall Festival of Fashions and Luncheon, begins at noon, and the second, The Evening Dinner, begins at 6 p.m., both on Friday, Nov. 2, at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
Local television personalities, community leaders and hospital employees will model the latest fall fashions from Epic Sports, Talbots, The Pretty Woman, Henry’s Bridal Boutique and Formal Wear, The Grasshopper Shop, Macy’s and The Mad Hatter.
In addition to dinner, the evening features a brief holiday fashion showcase and an auction conducted by the Rev. Robert Carlson.
Among the items up for bid, reports Bethany McKnight of SJH, are a 100 percent wool, hand-woven Moroccan oriental rug donated by Saliba’s; a donated, signed and framed Tom Hennessey print; overnight lodging, jewelry and gift certificates.
Evening guests are invited to dress in holiday wear if they choose.
Advance tickets for the luncheon are $25, $30 the day of the show, for general admission.
Reserved evening tickets are $30 in advance, and all tickets can be purchased at Patrick’s Hallmark in the Broadway Shopping Center or by calling Marie Demaso at 945-5700.
Proceeds assist with the operation of Helen’s Gift Shop in the hospital lobby and with needs of SJH.
Richard Peer e-mailed that proceeds from the Hampden Mystic Lodge Hunters Breakfast “will be used to fund the scholarship fund.”
The breakfast is 4-8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Masonic Lodge Hall across from Hampden Academy.
Upstairs, downstairs, all through the hall, you can find everything you want at the St. Mary’s Social Action Harvest Festival 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Presque Isle.
Sister Mary Kelly told me she’s looking forward to putting her feet up when this is all over, but in the meantime, she knows you will appreciate the choices of items available at booths staffed by a variety of organizations, live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, cook-offs and lots of great food to eat.
The event features a Daughters of Isabella chicken stew lunch around noon upstairs, with entertainment by The Stewing Elders; one the Knights’ locally famous bean suppers 4-6 p.m. Saturday downstairs; and Sunday breakfast 7:30-10:30 a.m. by the Youth Ministry downstairs; and finally a fancy tea for young ladies and their parents and grandparents 2-4 p.m. Sunday, downstairs.
There really is something for everyone, Elaine Sipe wrote me. She hopes everyone will “come and support our Social Action program.”
The public is invited to attend a Harvest Supper hosted by the newly formed Recovery Support Network at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the gymnasium of Elm Street School on Route 191 in East Machias.
RSN was organized to develop transitional housing for Washington County women in recovery from addiction and alcoholism.
The suggested donation for the fundraiser is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 for the meal featuring a full buffet that will offer a variety of healthful, delicious, homemade meals and a 50-50 raffle
Members of the board of directors will present their plans for developing transitional housing for women and their children, and hope to sign up the first group of members and supporters of the organization.
June Ashmore is board president serving with Ralph Ackley, David Burns, John Churchill, Sandra Draper-Hayward, Donn King, Nicole Oliver and Karen Polley.
For more information about the supper, call Ackley at 255-6369 or Oliver at 454-0082.
Dave Johnson wrote that Greater Bangor Area Detachment 1151 of the Marine Corps League will hold its first Marine Corps Birthday Ball at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
Not only are “other Marine Corps Leagues in Maine” invited to this special event, Johnson explained, the gathering is open to the general public as well.
Tickets will be sold only in advance, and are $25 each or $45 for couples for the celebration, which includes a full military ceremony, dinner, dancing and cash bar.
Most important, Johnson wants readers to know that if you plan to attend, you must purchase your tickets by Tuesday, Oct. 30, by calling him at 843-6929.
