Trick-or-treat equals all-you-can-eat at Oriental Jade on Halloween. The popular Bangor restaurant will offer a free buffet meal to children under 10 years old who wear a costume to the Jade on Halloween night. Eat, drink and be spooky at Fusion Bangor’s Halloween costume party at Thistles Restaurant on Exchange Street in Bangor. The event takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29. Tickets cost $10 for Fusion members, $15 for nonmembers, and are limited to 100 people. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and live music by Dirty Martini, a five-piece funk, soul and R&B band, will give you an excuse to groove. Not that you needed one. Fall for the food
Wine and dine at Opus restaurant’s autumn wine dinner, which will take place at 6 p.m. this Friday. Jack Scully from Easterly Wines will showcase five wines from his portfolio. Chef Roger Gelis has planned a five-course menu, including Pan Seared Scallops with Caramelized Pears and Micro-Peppercress; Poached Torchon of Foie Gras with Cherry Compote; Mushroom Pappardelli with Lamb Ragout; Grilled Miti Cana Cheese Sandwich with Pancetta and Truffle Honey; and Frozen Chocolate Mousse with Almond Tuile. The meal costs $65 per person. Reservations, which must be made by this evening, can be made by calling 945-5100.
International harvests
Foodies take note: University of Maine’s 20th annual Culturefest will take place this Saturday at the Field House, and one of the highlights is a spread of world cuisines. This year’s menu includes milk rice and spicy curry from India, sticky rice and spring rolls from Vietnam and casseroles from the Middle East – along with traditional singing, dancing and clothing.
