BURLINGTON, Vt. – Carson Laderoute scored the winning goal with 9:52 remaining in the second half on a Jessica Becker assist to lead the University of Vermont to a 1-0 women’s soccer victory over Maine on Thursday afternoon.

Maine is now eliminated from postseason contention in America East. The Black Bears had finished second in the America East tournament the previous four seasons.

Eliza Bradley made eight saves on 11 shots for the 3-13-1 Catamounts.

Jasmine Phillips made no saves on four shots for the 5-7-3 Bears.

Maine plays its regular-season finale Sunday at noon in Orono against Stony Brook.

UMPI 3, UMFK 1

At Presque Isle, Mindy Dolley knocked in two goals as host UMaine-Presque Isle downed UMaine-Fort Kent.

Erin Pelletier added a goal for the Owls while Billie Martin recorded 13 saves on 26 shots.

Jodyann Blake scored for the UMFK Bengals. Liz LaPlante stopped 10 of 28 shots.

Field hockey

Saint Joseph’s 7, Thomas 1

At Waterville, Jessica Baker scored two goals to lead Saint Joseph’s of Standish past Thomas.

Alyssa Dunn and Kelly Emerson chipped in a goal each for the 11-6 Monks. Colleen Grant stopped one of six shots.

Alyssa Audie scored for Thomas, which dropped to 4-7. Drielle Mitchell had 13 saves on 20 shots.
